MainStreet Newspapers Inc. purchases Comer News/ Danielsville Monitor
MainStreet Newspapers Inc., which owns The Madison County Journal, has purchased The Comer News/Danielsville Monitor.
The purchase will take effect Jan. 1, 2006.
The Comer News/Danielsville Monitor will print its final issue on Dec. 28, 2005.
After the new year, The Madison County Journal will incorporate parts of The Comer News/Danielsville Monitor within The Journal. For instance, The Journal will continue to publish the "Looking Back" page, which includes news from the archives of The Comer News/Danielsville Monitor.
Effective Jan. 1, 2006, The Journal will also print the legal notices for Madison County. Any legal notices that need to be published in 2005 should be submitted to The Comer News office in Comer (783-2553). Any legal notices that need to be published after the new year should be submitted to The Madison County Journal (795-2567).
The Journal will continue to operate an office in Danielsville across from the county government complex off Hwy. 29. The Comer News/Danielsville Monitor offices will no longer be used as newspaper offices.
The Comer News/Danielsville Monitor (also known as Madison County Newspapers) is Madison County's oldest business, established in 1882. Mr. Jere Ayers served as the owner and editor of The Comer News/Danielsville Monitor until his passing on May 13, 2005.
"As a newspaperman, Mr. Ayers was dedicated to serving Madison County for many decades," said Zach Mitcham, editor of The Madison County Journal. "We will do our best to uphold his spirit of service to this community."
