Virginia Hardman
Virginia Hodges Hardman, 88, of Colbert, died Satur-day, July 2, 2005, at her residence.
She was born September 12, 1916, in Dublin, and was the daughter of the late Dr. Charles Augustus Hodges and Nina Moye Hodges. After her mother died, she was raised by her beloved uncle and aunt, Carl and Bessie Wade Hodges, Montrose. She graduated from high school in Dublin, and was a graduate of Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville in 1938. After college graduation, she moved to Colbert and taught math at Colbert High School where she was the girls’ basketball coach. After two years at Colbert, she moved to Baxley, near her hometown of Dublin, where she taught for one year before moving back to Colbert, where she spent the rest of her life. She taught one year in Comer and then stayed home to watch over the younger years of her daughters. She retired after 32 years of teaching and 27 of those were spent as the librarian at Colbert Elementary School. She was librarian of the Colbert Community Library for approximately 10 years after retirement.
Mrs. Hardman was a member of the Colbert United Methodist Church for 60 years, where she served as pianist, treasurer, teacher of children’s Sunday School classes, the Annie Laura Hampton Class and the Children’s Message, the last being Palm Sunday of this year. Mrs. Hardman was preceded in death by her husband, Phil Morris Hardman; a brother, Robert Earl Hodges; and sisters, Annett Callahan and Charlotte Alexander.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Tal Martin, Hull, and Nancy and Mitchell Goss, Colbert; sisters, Betty Lord, Montrose, Margaret Chappell, Dublin; brother, Dr. Charles Hodges, Valdosta; grandchildren and their spouses, Jody and Tommy Ferguson, Philip Shane and Jennifer Martin, Rodney Goss, Rusty Goss; great-grandchildren, Haden Martin, Haze Ferguson, Henry Martin and Kira Martin.
A “celebration of life” was held Tuesday, July 5, at the Colbert United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Haralson officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Colbert United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Mamie Dutton
Mamie Boles Dutton, 95, of Royston, died Monday, July 4, 2005, at the Spring Valley Health Care Center in Elberton.
She was born in Anderson, S.C., on May 11, 1910, and was the daughter of the late Clarence and Rose Manning Boles. She was a homemaker and a member of the Elberton Church of God. Mrs. Dutton was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Dutton, and two sons, Amos and J.C. Dutton.
Survivors include four sons, James Dutton and Jerry Dutton, both of Elberton; Charles Dutton, Lawrenceville; and Garrison Dutton, Winston; five daughters, Geneva Grimes, Elberton, Dorothy Rousey, Hodges, S.C., Ruby House, Hull, Lillian Wilson, Savannah, and Kathleen Grizzle, Royston; a brother, Pete Boles, Hartwell; two sisters, Lula Terry, Spartanburg, S.C., and Sally Thacker, Anderson, S.C.; 35 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 6, at the Elberton Church of God with the Revs. James Traffansted and Randy Coggins officiating. Burial was in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

Patricia Gandy
Patricia Marie Matthews Skeggs Gandy, 78, of Commerce, died Sunday, July 3, 2005.
She was born in Crestview, Fla., and was the daughter of the late Sell and Laura Atkins Matthews. She was a retired lab technician from Gold Kist, a member of Homer Baptist Church, and an active member of the Banks County Senior Center. Mrs. Gandy was preceded in death by her first husband, the Rev. Paul F. Skeggs, Sr., and her second husband William Q. Gandy.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul Skeggs, Jr. and Michele Skeggs, Homer, and Hiram and Elizabeth Skeggs, Royston; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 4, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home with the Rev. Henry Webb officiating. Burial was in the Social Circle City Cemetery.

Carolyn Rousey
Carolyn Irvin Rousey, 51, of Danielsville, died Tuesday, June 28, 2005, at her residence.
She was the daughter of Florence C. Irvin. Mrs. Rousey was preceded in death by a son, Chad Everett Rousey.
Survivors include her husband, Calvin J. Rousey; daughter, Charlotte F. Rousey; and her mother.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 1, at the chapel of Brown Funeral Home with Ray Jenkins and Dayton Logan officiating. Burial was in Danielsville Memory Garden Cemetery.

J.T. Pilgrim
Joseph Taylor “J.T.” Pilgrim, 91, of Royston, died Tuesday, June 28, 2005, at the Hartwell Health Care Center in Hartwell.
He was born in Franklin County on August 11, 1913, and was the son of the late Charlie J. and Winnie Franklin Pilgrim. He worked as a carpenter and a farmer, and was a member of the Franklin Springs Baptist Church in Royston. Mr. Pilgrim was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Sue Toler Pilgrim, and a brother, Grady Pilgrim.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Ed and Peggy Pilgrim, Pendleton, S.C., and William and Carol Pilgrim and George and Pinkie Pilgrim, all of Royston; daughter and son-in-law, Marie and David McGarity, Royston; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Willie Pilgrim, Hartwell; sisters, Mary Lou McCollum and Mattie Hilley, both of Royston; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 1, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home with the Revs. Chris Pritchett and Darvin Cash officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons, Joseph Pilgrim, Tim Alewine, Jeff Vaughn, Joey Strickland, David Dudley, Kevin Kirk and Curtis Bradney.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Joseph Martin, Jr.
Joseph Lex Martin, Jr., 78, of Commerce, died Friday, July 1, 2005, at his residence.
He was born August 31, 1926, in DeKalb County, and was the son of the late Joseph Lex Martin Sr. and Mary Jane Morris Martin. He was a retired radio and TV repairman and was a member of Decatur Height Baptist Church. He was a veteran having served in the United States Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Harris Martin, Commerce; son, Dave Martin, Lawrenceville; daughter, Janet L. Pierce, Commerce; and four grandchildren, Joel C. Pierce, Jason S. Pierce, Denver L. Martin and Dustin L. Martin.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 2, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home with the Revs. Ronnie Moon and Jerry Smith officiating. Burial was in Hudson River Baptist Church.

Ronald Livesay
Ronald B. Livesay, 66, of Flat Rock, N.C., died peacefully at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Whitmire, S.C., he was the son of the late Lloyd Livesay and Fannie Johnson Livesay. He had lived in Athens for many years prior to moving to Henderson County, N.C. over 15 years ago. He was an entrepreneur in the telecommunications and cable industry over the past 35 years. He was Baptist. As a wise, patient and caring man, he touched and changed the lives of many and will be dearly missed, according to loved ones. Mr. Livesay was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Livesay and Larry Livesay, and two sisters, Brenda Livesay and Debra Sue Livesay.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Jones Livesay; three daughters, Rhonda Livesay Carey, Bogart, Candice Livesay and Skylar Livesay, both of Flat Rock, N.C.; five sons, Ronald Livesay, Jr., Flat Rock, N.C., Steve Livesay, Bogart, Mike Livesay, Potomac, Md., Tommy Livesay, Colbert, and Kenny Livesay, Tyron, N.C.; two brothers, William R. Livesay, Johnson City, Tenn., and Lloyd Livesay, Blountville, Tenn.; sister, Vaneeva Jennings, Johnson City, Tenn.; and 12 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 6, at the First Baptist Church of Hendersonville with the Revs. Ray Wyans and Jim Jones officiating. Burial was at the Livesay Family Cemetery.
