Simmons to seek BOC seat
Ricky Simmons has announced his candidacy for the Post 3 seat on the Banks County Board of Commissioners.
Simmons is the son of Jeanette Wood Simmons and the late W.D. (Bill) Simmons. He is owner and operator of Simmons Grassing, a Banks County business for 57 years. Simmons was born and raised in Banks County and attended Gainesville College and the University of Georgia. He became the president of Simmons Grassing when his father retired, owning and operating the business until his own retirement in 2005. While the president of Simmons Grassing, Simmons was a member of the board of the Georgia Highway Contractors Association and served on several environmental impact committees.
Simmons’ hobbies include woodworking and collecting and restoring vintage cars and tractors. He has been actively involved in several local and national car clubs, serving as president of a national organization.
Simmons and his wife of 36 years, the former Carolyn Stephens Simmons, have two children, Ginny, who lives in Banks County, and Bill, who lives in Atlanta.
Simmons’ mother, Jeanette Wood Simmons, continues to live in their family home in northern Banks County and has been active in the Banks County Historical Society for many years. His mother’s interest in historical preservation has influenced Simmons’ desire to preserve the character, heritage, and rural culture of Banks County, while at the same time, supporting smart growth in Banks County.
“Smart Growth” states Simmons, “supports attracting industry and business which will bring in jobs for future financial growth in our community.”
Simmons says that his experience as owner and operator of Simmons Grassing has given him experience in budgeting and sound financial management, a valuable asset that he will bring to county management. Simmons said his primary concern for Banks County is citizens first, industry or growth second at the same time promoting the Banks County rural culture.
Simmons invites the citizens of Banks County to call him at 706-335-3124, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., to discuss their ideas for controlled growth in Banks County while preserving the rural culture.
