Death appears to be ‘murder,’ sheriff says

The death of a Banks County man is being treated by law enforcement officials as murder.
Randy Lynn Rylee, 47, of a Carson-Segars Road address, was found dead by his sister Sunday afternoon in a small trailer he was residing in. Banks County sheriff Charles Chapman said a call was received at the 911 center at 1:48 p.m. at which time BCSO officials responded to the scene off Hwy. 98 outside of Homer at 384 Carson-Segars Road.
Officers cleared the scene and discovered Rylee dead inside the trailer lying in his bed with his legs hanging out. He had been shot once in the head. Chapman said evidence gathered at the scene appeared to rule out suicide.
“Right now, we are not looking at this as a suicide,” he said. “We are pursuing it as a murder investigation.”
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was contacted and the state agency sent a crime unit and crime van to assist with the investigation. Rylee’s body was taken to the state crime lab for autopsy.
Members of the BCSO and the GBI began interviewing numerous people Sunday afternoon and continued investigating the case throughout the night. Chapman said Monday morning leads are still being followed up.
The sheriff said the exact time of death has not been determined, but he noted family members did see and talk to Rylee the previous night.
The small trailer Rylee was residing in was located next to his sister’s residence.
Despite rumors of an arrest in the case, Banks County chief investigator Major Kyle Bryant said Tuesday morning the investigation is still on going. Bryant said approximately 50 people have already been interviewed.
