Former DA Tim Madison Is Indicted
Madison Indicted On 8 Counts; Wife On 2 Counts And Former DA Employee On 3 Counts
The man who used to be in charge of prosecuting felony offenses in Jackson, Banks and Barrow counties now finds himself on the opposite side of the courtroom.
Former district attorney Tim Madison was indicted on multiple felony theft counts by a Banks County grand jury Tuesday. Madison’s wife, Linn Jones Madison, and another former employee of the Piedmont Judicial Circuit, Anthony Brett Williams, were also indicted on multiple felony counts related to financial transactions while all three worked in the district attorney’s office.
The case was presented to the Banks County grand jury by officials from the Georgia Attorney General’s Office which handled the investigation.
No trial date has yet been set. Arrest warrants have been issued for all three and they were to have turned themselves in sometime Wednesday, said sources close to the investigation.
Madison resigned as DA in June following a series of investigative reports by The Jackson Herald, a sister newspaper to The Commerce News, about his financial dealings in the DA’s office. A state investigation headed by the attorney general’s office led to this week’s indictments. Madison’s wife was also an employee in the district attorney’s office.
State officials would not comment on the possibility that indictments might also be sought in Jackson and Barrow counties, the other two counties in the Piedmont Judicial Circuit.
“The attorney general is committed to rooting out public corruption regardless of where it is found and today’s indictments against a former district attorney speaks clearly to that,” said Russ Willard, spokesman for Attorney General Thurbert Baker.
