Kenneth Bodkin
Kenneth Lynn Bodkin, 75, of Royston, died Sunday, March 25, 2007, at the Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens.
Born in Eagle Lake, Fla., on September 4, 1931, he was the son of the late Clarence and Lillie Moore Bodkin. He was retired from Continental Can Company and worked with Pruitt Funeral Home for a number of years. He was a member of the Royston Baptist Church and the Gideon’s International. He enjoyed playing the harmonica with blue grass and gospel groups at the Georgia Mountain Fair and at local clubs and churches, according to loved ones.
Survivors include his wife, Marinell Pike Bodkin, Royston; a daughter, Mary Eubanks, Foley, Ala.; sons, Bryan Bodkin, Snellville, and Chris Bodkin, Whitesburg; granddaughters, Crystal Johnson and Sandra Bodkin; great-grandchildren, Haley Johnson and Hunter Hooks; and a brother, Lawrence Bodkin, Jacksonville, Fla.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 28, at the Royston Baptist Church with the Revs. Byron Greene and Richard Bielski officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Royston.

Swayne Pritchett
Swayne Jolly Pritchett, 84, of Anderson, S.C., formerly of Commerce, died Sunday, March 25, 2007, at An Med Health in Anderson, S.C.
Born on June 1, 1922, in Banks County, he was the son of the late Clarence and Lula Wood Pritchett. He was a retired telephone company repairman and a member of Erastus Christian Church. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during World War II.
Mr. Pritchett was preceded in death by a son, Sammy Pritchett.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Minish Pritchett, Anderson, S.C.; a son, Jerry Pritchett, Travelers Rest, S.C.; daughters, Beth Gordon, Commerce, and JoAnn Hanley, Colbert; brother, Nolan Pritchett, Maysville; sister Gayle Pritchett, Commerce; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, March 28, at Jackson Memorial Gardens in Commerce with the Revs. Doug Duncan and Eddie Gordon officiating.

Robert Harris
Robert Walton Harris, 82, of Athens, died Friday, March 23, 2007.
A native of Oglethorpe County, he was the son of the late William Howard Harris Sr. and Annie Lois Turner Harris.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William Howard Harris Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Harriette P. Harris; brother and sister-in-law, Turner A. and Clyde Harris, Carlton; sister-in-law, Rachel Harris, Athens; sister-in-law and husband, Estelle Parker and Garland Mangum; brother-in-law and wife, Elbert “Ed” and Gwen Parker; niece who was raised in the Harris home, Susan Russell Mahaffey; a number of nieces and nephews; and a beloved pet of 16 years, Molly.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 25, in the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home with Dr. Stewart Simms officiating. Burial was at Evergreen Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Wesley and Alan Parker, Russell Mahaffey, Ashby Harris, Jett Faircloth and Michael Kennedy.

Howard Junior Stewart
Howard Junior Stewart, 83, of Athens, died Thursday, March 15, 2007.
Born in Oglethorpe County, he was the son of the late James Elijah and Nay Gunter Stewart. He was a retired carpenter and member of Hull Baptist Church. Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Helen Wages Stewart.

Annie Ward
Annie Ruth Ward, 78, of Nicholson, died Friday, March 23, 2007, at BJC Nursing Home in Commerce.
She was born on August 28, 1928, in Jackson County, and was the daughter of the late Annie Barnett and William Oscar Palmer. She was a homemaker and member of the River of Life Worship Center. Mrs. Ward was preceded in death by her husband, Pat Ward; and sons, Mike and Patrik Ward.
Survivors include a son, Farald Ward, Smyrna, Tenn.; daughters, Marsha Dukes, Laurens, S.C., and Myra Helton, Nicholson; brothers, Clifford Palmer, Lithonia, and John Palmer, Nicholson; sisters, Hilda Watkins and Myrtle Fouche, both of Nicholson, Lottie Moore, Almond, N.C., Ruby Borkman, Alpharetta, and Linda Middleton, Hayesville, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

‘Jet’ Bellenger
Jesse “Jet” Bellenger, 84, of Commerce, died Tuesday, March 20, at BJC Medical Center in Commerce following an extended illness.
He was born in Franklin County.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Brock Ballenger; sons, Jesse Ballenger Jr., Homer, Jimmy Ballenger, Royston; a daughter, Betty Chambers, Gillsville; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Charlie Nash
Charlie Lee Nash, 75, of Danielsville, died Thursday, March 22, 2007, at his residence.
Born in Madison County on April 19, 1931, he was the son of the late Charlie G. and Grace Roling Nash. He was a farmer and a disabled veteran, having served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Nash was preceded in death by brothers, Wayne, Harold, Neil and Thurmond Nash.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Sue Brown Nash, Danielsville; a son, Dale Nash, Danielsville; sisters, Donna Nash, Martha Davis, and Ouida Sims, all of Danielsville, Lucy McElroy, Athens, Patsy Duffell, Comer, and Kay Callaway, Carlton.

Russell Smith
Russell Lee Smith, 52, of Comer, died Wednesday, March 21, 2007.
A native of Peterson, N.J., he was the son of the late Charles Edward and Jeannie Miller Smith. Mr. Smith was a veteran, having served in the United States Navy.
Survivors include his stepmother, Shirley Smith, Colbert; a sister, Theresa Wallace, Comer; and a brother, Ranny Smith, Comer.

Mary Jones
Mary A. Jones, 91, of Athens, died Wednesday, March 21, 2007.
She was a retired Bibb County school teacher with 30 years of teaching, was a volunteer at the Madison County Library, and served on the Friendship Force in Macon and Riverdale. She was a member of the Jones Chapel Methodist Church in Danielsville.
Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Wilson Jones; and two daughters, Virginia Ginger J. McNichols and Aldred J. Oxford.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Ronald Faulkner, Colbert; grandchildren, Beverly O. Stuntz, Susan O. Varano, Kenneth H. McNichols, Leigh M. Hall, Brian McNichols and Christopher A. Cholet; nine great-grandchildren; sons-in-law, Robert H. McNichols and Jerry H. Oxford.

Michael Adams
Michael Layne Adams, 50, of Nicholson, died Saturday, March 24, 2007, at Atlanta Medical Center.
He was born on March 19, 1957, in Union Parish, La., and was the son of Layne Adams of Commerce and the late Marie Darlee Brett Adams. He was employed with Southeast Toyota and a member of the First Baptist Church of Farmerville, La.

Irene Callaway Massey, 73, of Colbert, died Saturday, March 24, 2007, at Cobb Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Oglethorpe County and was the daughter of the late Cleve and Cindi Helton Callaway and was a member of Grove Chapel Congregational Holiness Church. Mrs. Massey was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Massey; and two grandchildren.
Survivors include sons, William R. Gabriel, Lexington, Randy Gabriel, Colbert, Greg Gabriel, Statham; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
