McKinley Elizabeth Smallwood, infant daughter of Amy Ritchie-Smallwood of Commerce, died Tuesday, October 23, 2007. She weighed 3 lbs. and 14 ozs. and was 15 inches long.

‘Tommy’ Wickliffe
Thomas “Tommy” Alfred Wickliffe, 69, of Colbert, died Monday, November 5, 2007.
A native of Elbert County, he was the son of the late Tom and Thelma Teasley Wickliffe. He was the owner and operator of Wickliffe Refrigeration since 1985 and was a member of the Colbert United Methodist Church. Mr. Wickliffe was a veteran, having served in the United States Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Carey Wickliffe; brother, John Wickliffe, Anderson, S.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 7, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Haralson, Chaplain Mark Fite and Kola Payne officiating. Burial was in the Colbert Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Colbert United Methodist Church Building Fund or to St. Mary’s Hospice House.

Marshall Royston
Marshall Royston, 82, of Greenwood, S.C., died Sunday, November 4, 2007, at the VA Medical Center in Augusta.
Born in Madison County, he was the son of the late William C. and Etta Brown Royston. He was employed by Greenwood Mills, Mathews Plant, for 23 years, and was the owner and operator of Royston & Sons Used Parts for 27 years. He was a member of South Greenwood Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he taught Sunday School for 30 years. Mr. Royston was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during World War II, where he served in the 43rd Infantry Division in the Pacific Theatre when Japan was occupied.
Survivors include a daughter, Charlotte Marie Chamberlin, Greenwood, S.C.; sons, Marshall Edwin Royston, William Timothy Royston, Chester Leon Royston and Charles Michael Royston, all of Greenwood, S.C.; sisters, Helen Cape and Addie Lou Hawkins, both of Royston; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 7, in the chapel of Harley Funeral Home with the Revs. Sherrill Green and Ansel Boggs officiating. Burial with military honors was at New Hope Congregational Holiness Church Cemetery in Danielsville.
Pallbearers were Joshua Royston, Justin Elliott, Ronnie Royston, Tony Royston, Rod Wilkinson and Roger Royston. Honorary escort was members of the Guy Reed Sunday School Class of South Greenwood Pentecostal Holiness Church.

James Abernathy
James Wilburn Abernathy, 49, of Gainesville, died Tuesday, February 20, 2007, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
Born on May 8, 1957, in Habersham County, he was the son of the late Rev. Wilburn Abernathy and Mary Elizabeth Franklin Abernathy. He lived most of his life in Habersham and Stephens Counties and was employed by Wilbanks Lumber Company for about 27 years. He was of the holiness faith.
Survivors include his wife, Lorrie Maney Abernathy, Gainesville; daughters, Misty Wood Abernathy, Sautee, Sonya Abernathy, Toccoa, Beth Abernathy Roberts, Royston, Kayla Abernathy, Comer; step-sons, Dusty Maney and Ralley Maney, both of Batesville; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Greg Walters, Homer; sister, Sarah Walters, Homer; two half-sisters, Paulene Adams and Olene Turner, both of Cleveland; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday, February 22, 2007, at Hillcrest Chapel of Acree-Davis Funeral Home in Toccoa with the Rev. Scott Colbert officiating. Burial was in Stephens Memorial Gardens.

Susan Phillips
Susan Regina Phillips, 50, of Maysville, died Saturday, November 3, 2007, at her residence.
She was born on December 4, 1956, in Barrow County, and was the daughter of the late Robert Bobby Brooks and Betty Jean Carol Ollis. She was a housekeeper. Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by a son, Bryon Jason Phillips; and a brother, Jimmy Ollis.
Survivors include a son, Steve Phillips, Maysville; daughter, Makisha Bettie Angel, Danielsville; and brothers, Michael Ollis, Atlanta, and David Ollis, Commerce.

Miss Mary E. Brown, 50, of Royston, died Wednesday, October 31, 2007, at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens.
She was born in Elbert County on March 12, 1957, and was the daughter of Clay Hueston and Angeline McGarity Brown of Royston. She was a waitress and a member of the Vanna United Methodist Church.
Survivors in addition to her parents, include fiancé, Danny H. Phillips, Royston.

Alvin Long
Alvin Long, 65, of Athens, died Thursday, November 1, 2007, at Cobb Memorial Hospital in Royston.
Born in Franklin County on November 10, 1941, he was the son of Douscie Mae Haynie Long of Danielsville and the late Charles Alton Long. He was a veteran, having retired from the United States Air Force, and later worked with the University of Georgia, where he retired as a computer operator. Mr. Long was preceded in death by a brother, James Allen Long.
Survivors in addition to his mother, include a sister, Sue Scott; Bowman; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 3, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home with the Revs. Mike Spence and Dennis Kesler officiating. Burial was in the New Hope Worship Center Cemetery with full military honors.

Donna Jean Hill
Donna Jean Hill, 45, of Colbert, died Sunday, November 4, 2007, at her residence.
She was born in Fulton County on September 19, 1962, and was the daughter of Violet Jean Waites Mize Bishop of Colbert and the late Henry Russell Mize. She was a secretary and a member of Colbert Living Water Holiness Church.
Survivors include her husband, Stanley Hill, Colbert; sons, Bradley Scott Hill, Danielsville, Daniel Blake Hill, Ila, Adam Ronald Harrison and Phillip Rodreguez, both of Colbert; daughter, Christy Loggins, Winterville; brother, Henry Russell Mize, Carlton; sisters, Christine Guffey, Blairsville, and Angie Wagley, Lawrenceville; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 6, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home with the Rev. Janice Loggins officiating. Burial was in the family lot in Colbert City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jonathan Loggins, Jack Guffey Sr., Jack Guffey Jr., Bradley Hill, Adam Harrison, and Danny Hill.

Roberta Brown
Frances Roberta Moore Brown, 84, of Royston, died Sunday, November 4, 2007.
She was born in Lumpkin County, Dahlonega, on February 24, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Robert McClure and Ola Jane Smith Moore. She was a lifelong member of the Royston First United Methodist Church. She was a former chemist, having attended North Georgia College, the University of Miami and the University of Wisconsin. She was a lifelong learner continuing studies at Cambridge University-Emmanuel College, England and the University of Georgia. She was active in many civic organizations, including 35 years on the Royston Public Library Board/Athens Regional Library Systems, and over 15 years on the Governor’s Council for Maternal and Infant Child Care. She served on the Ty Cobb Hospital Auxiliary, the Franklin/Hart/Elbert Ladies Medical Auxiliary, and a former president of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Southern Railway Surgeons Association. She was active in the local and state Democratic Political Party, Emmanuel College Fund Raising Campaign, North Georgia College Robert & Ola Moore Scholarship Fund, and the state and national Habitat for Humanity Programs. She was an avid golfer and tennis player and enjoyed time with friends and family, loved ones stated.
Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Stewart Dixon Brown, Jr.; grandson, Christopher Robert Brown; sister, Minnie Lou M. Lear; son-in-law, Dr. David F. Daniel; aunt, Edna Hitchcock, sisters-in-law, Mary Stewart Brown and Sarah Frances Weir.
Survivors include daughters, Carolyn Brown, Athens, Barbara Whitney, Clemson, S.C.; a son and daughter-in-law, Stewart D. Brown III and Katie P. Brown, Gainesville, Dr. Robert M. Brown III and Debbie B. Brown, Moultrie, Tyrus Conwell and Myra O. Brown, Sandra R. Ward and Dr. Timothy H. Ward, Thomasville; grandchildren and great-grandchildren include, Ola W. Martin, Walhalla, S.C., Rob Whitney, Clemson, S.C., Heidi Brown, Atlanta, Dixie Brown, Robbie Brown and Patti Brown, all of Gainesville, Lauren Brown, Tyler Brown and Clayton Brown, all of Moultrie, Amanda Damin, Gainesville, Sandy Daniel, David Daniel, Thomasville, and little Miss Caroline Martin, Walhalla., S.C.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 11, at the Royston First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim McCollough and Vernon Boswell officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Royston. The body is at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Saturday, November 10, from 7 to 9 p.m. The family is at their respective homes.

Betty Jean Thomas
Betty Jean Thomas, 75, of Elberton, died Monday, November 4, 2007.
A native of Elbert County, she was the daughter of the late Sue Nix Webb Mills and Alvin Webb. She was co-owner of Thomas Inventory Service and Granny’s Kitchen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Thomas.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Lee and Kathy Thomas, Stuttgart, Germany, and James Kirk and Joanna Thomas, Carlton; grandchildren, Heather Thomas, Demorest, Hannah Thomas and John Michael Thomas, both of Stuttgart, Germany.
Graveside services will be held Friday, November 9, at 1 p.m., at Winterville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday, November 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Claude Lollis
Claude Lollis Jr., 70, of Hull, died Saturday, November 3, 2007, in an automobile accident.
Born on July 23, 1937, in Anderson, S.C., he was the son of the late Claude Lollis Sr. and Clara Majeski Lollis. He graduated from Boys’ High School and was retired from Coble Dairy Company. He was a lifetime member of both the Elks Club and Moose Lodge. He was preceded in death by two brothers; and three sisters.
Mr. Lollis was a veteran, having served in the United States Army and in the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Survivors include his wife, Jeri Lollis; a son, Michael Lollis; a step-son, Larry B. Jones, Irmo; step-daughter, Cynthia Ann Eisner, Wisconsin; brother, Carter Lollis, Anderson, S..C.; sister, Annie Boykin, Anderson, S.C; and five grandchildren.
