Braselton annexes properties
BY KERRI TESTEMENT
The Braselton Town Council approved an annexation and zoning request for a commercial development in South Hall on Monday night.
Spout Springs Partners, LLC asked the town to annex and zone its one acre property on Thompson Mill Road from AR-IV in Hall County to General-Commercial (G-C) in Braselton.
The property is located next to a 16.8-acre property that was annexed and zoned into Braselton in March 2007 for a grocery store, restaurants, retail space and mini-warehouses at the intersection of Thompson Mill Road and Spout Springs Road. A representative of the applicant told the town council that the properties will be combined for a commercial project.
The town council also approved an annexation and zoning request from Patton-Boyer for 4.93 acres located at 6750 Ga. Hwy. 53. The property owners are Tom and Deborah Kitchin.
The company asked that the property be zoned from HRC in Jackson County to G-C in Braselton.
The property — located at the intersection of New Cut Road and Hwy. 53, next to Hometown Community Bank — includes a 25,000 square-foot retail center called Hometown Walk.
The Braselton Planning Commission had recently recommended approval of the requests.
OTHER BUSINESS
In other business, the Braselton Town Council:
•met in a closed-door meeting for 44 minutes to discuss land acquisition and pending or potential litigation. When the council opened the meeting to the public, the council authorized the town manager and town attorney to acquire the property discussed during the executive session, including possible use of eminent domain, for a reuse water line.
•approved a request from the Day Design Group to be included on the town’s sewer waiting list for a new subdivision on 50.18 acres on Hoyt Wood Drive in unincorporated Jackson County. The property is located in Braselton’s sewer service area, although a sewer line is available one parcel from the property.
•approved a request from Georgia Power for an easement to place lines and related appurtenances on Georgia Transmission distribution line poles. The town recently sold an easement to Georgia Transmission for a new substation near Sharon Baptist Church. Georgia Power’s request would allow the company to place its lines on Georgia Transmission’s lines, according to town manager Jennifer Scott.
•learned that the Braselton Mulberry RiverWalk clean-up day will be held on Saturday, April 26, at 9 a.m., at the wooden bridge in the Mulberry Park subdivision. The town is seeking volunteers for the event.
•learned that the annual Salute to Business event will be held on Thursday, April 24, at 6 p.m., at town hall.
