Jerry Thomas
Jerry Lee Thomas, 46, of Lula, died Saturday, March 22, 2008, at his residence, following a brief illness.
Born in Hall County on August 19, 1961, he was the son of the late Rev. J. Hudson Thomas and Louise Worley Thomas of Lula. He was employed for 19 years with Jim Hardman Pontiac GMC, where he was currently the service manager. He was Baptist and enjoyed playing golf and spending quality time with his family and friends, loved ones stated. Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by grandparents, Lee and Ola Worley and the Rev. J.C. Thomas and Lillie Bell Saxon Thomas; and an uncle, Morgan Worley.
Survivors in addition to his mother, include a loving caretaker, friend and fiancé, Tori H. Freeman, Murrayville; fiancé’s daughters and son-in-law, Amberly Freeman, Gainesville, and Roger and Ashley Pearson, Lula; brother, Gary Thomas, Helen; aunts and uncles, Ruth and Bascom Echols, Ronnie and Mildred Loggins and Larry and Susan Thomas, all of Lula, the Rev. Cecil Thomas and Lou Thomas and Ricky and Evatt Thomas, all of Alto; special cousins, Vickie and Jeff Roper, Gainesville; and a special dog, Noel, whom he loved with a passion.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 24, at Belton Baptist Church with the Revs. Cecil Thomas and Shane WeHunt officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with the Rev. Robert Nix officiating. Pallbearers were David Kendrix, Ricky Thomas, Joe Thomas, Eric Thomas, Ben Benton, Alan Wiechert, Jeffery Raper and Gordon Worley. Fellow employees from Jim Hardman Pontiac GMC were invited to attend the service and served as honorary pallbearers.

Delow Webb
Delow Webb, 88, of Maysville (Holly Springs Community), died Tuesday, March 18, 2008.
Born in Jackson County, he was the son of the late A.P. and Dellie Stringer Webb. He was a retired mechanic with the Georgia Department of Transportation and a member of the Holly Springs United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Emma Ogletree Webb, Maysville; a son, Scotty Webb, Maysville; brother, Owen Webb, Jefferson; granddaughter, LeAnne and Chad Bell, Buford; great-grandchildren, Hunter and Hartley Bell; special children, Haley, Lauren and Caleb Sanders.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 20, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with the Revs. Tom Fish and Bob Lewis officiating. Burial was in Center Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Joe Anderson, Arthur Marlow, Bert Sanders, Dave Santaniello, Bill Sanders and David Ellington.

Carrie Brown
Carrie Meeks Brown, 103, of Ellijay, died Sunday, March 23, 2008, at a private health care facility, following an extended illness.
She was born in Banks County on October 7, 1904, the daughter of the late General and Janice Lacey Meeks. She was a homemaker and was Holiness. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Brown; and sisters, Frannie White and Betty Shubert.
Survivors include a son, Greg Pendley, Ellijay; daughter, Betty Hooper, Ringgold; two great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 25, in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Ralph O. Smith officiating. Burial was in Yonah Congregational Holiness Church cemetery.

Sarah Little
Sarah Frances Little, 74, died Monday, March 10, 2008, at BJC Medical Center in Commerce.
Born on November 7, 1933, in Banks County, she was the daughter of the late George and Gertis Pruitte Rucker. She joined the Tabor’s Chapel C.M.E. Church at Fort Lamar in Madison County, at an early age. She served there for 22 years. In 1966 she moved to Commerce and joined Mt. Pleasant C.M.E. Church, later joining New Faith Methodist Church in Commerce. She was a devoted church member, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her, according to loved ones. Mrs. Little was preceded in death by her husband, Bishop Little Jr.; ten brothers; and three sisters.
Survivors include a niece, Betty J. Rucker Borders; nephew, Jimmy Usher, Commerce; as well as other nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Geneva Rucker and Ruby Nell Rucker, both of Commerce.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 13, at New Faith Methodist Church in Commerce with the Revs. Frank Earls, Henry Webb and W.R. Brown officiating.

James Chambers
James Michael Chambers, 40, of Toccoa, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at Stephens County Hospital, following an extended illness.
Born in Banks County on November 4, 1967, he was the son of Frances Chambers of Alto and the late Junior Chambers. He was a carpenter and was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Chambers.
Survivors in addition to his mother, include his wife, Ann Chambers, Toccoa; daughter, Carrie Chambers, Alto; sons, Tim and David Chambers, both of Alto; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Kathy Maney, Breman; two nephews; and a niece.
Memorial services were held Friday, March 21, at the residence of his mother.

Theodore Dalack
Theodore Bruce Dalack, of Pendergrass, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008.
He was the son of the late Assad and Jenny Bonamo Dalack and was most well known locally as a substitute teacher for Jefferson High Schools. He was a combat hero veteran of World War II and Korean War, Air Force First Lieutenant, bombardier. Mr. Dalack was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathleen Patricia; sisters, Marie, Charlotte and Ann; nephews, Randy Dalack and Dean Robinson.
Survivors include a son, Ted Dalack Jr.; brother, George; nieces, Barbara Dimarco, Lynette Coleman, Charlene Wolthausen, Tony Sookraj and Kim Pastor; nephews, Robert Yanus, Garrett DiMarco, David and Alan Machost, Keith and Eddie Wolthausen; great-nieces and nephews, Ashley, Haleigh, Tyler, Allie, Shannon, Lee, Drica, Deana and Megan.
Memorial services will be held at a later date in New Jersey.

Fannie Gunter
Fannie Guest Gunter, 77, of Toccoa, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at her residence.
Born in Madison County, she was the daughter of the late E.S. “Van” and Beulah Graham Guest. She was a member of the New Town Baptist Church. Mrs. Gunter was preceded in death by her husband, Mitchell Gunter; twin sons, Maurice and Marvin Gunter; brothers, Clifford, Hoyt, John and Rassie Guest; sisters, Marion Esco, Frances Ray, Pearline McElreath, Berta Mae Gable and Henrietta Rich.
Survivors include a son, Mitchell “Mike” Gunter Jr., Toccoa; daughters, Cathy Gunter Davis, Athens, and Carol Gunter Post, Gillsville; grandsons, Dwight Davis, Orlando, Fla., and Jonathan Post, Gillsville; granddaughters, Ivy, Holly, Gillian and Cydney Gunter, all of Toccoa; great-grandchild, Kinley Gunter, Toccoa; brother, Herman Guest, Carlton; sisters, Margie Dudley and Clora Pulliam, both of Carlton, and Jeanie Vandeburg, Boone, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 21, at New Town Baptist Church with the Revs. Johnny Guest (nephew), Herb Sneddon and Chuck Black officiating. Burial was at the Carlton City Cemetery.
Musical selections were played by a great-nephew, Benton Lastinger, during the service, a solo sung by a niece, Nancy Seymour, and a duet sung by nieces, Theresa Hicks and Susan Childers. Pallbearers were nephews, Waymon Yarbrough, Steve Yarbrough, Danny Yarbrough, Tony Lastinger, Mark Guest and Mike Davis.

Ruth Langford
Ruth Geraldine Langford, 92, of Gillsville, died Saturday, March 22, 2008, following a brief illness.
Born on August 25, 1915, in Jackson County, she was one of nine children born to the late William Joseph and Leah Murphy Cash. Mrs. Langford was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Grady Langford. She was devoted to her family and words cannot express their loss, according to family members.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Rebecca Langford and Larry Sailors, Maysville, and Christa Sue Langford Pickett, Albany; brothers, Carey Cash, Bethlehem, and Myron Cash, Hoschton; sister, Ann Georgine Smith, Waycross; grandchildren, Pam Sailors, Springfield, Mo., Mark Pickett, Albany, Paige Pastor, St. Simon’s Island, Richard Sailors, Maysville; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 25, at the Holly Springs United Methodist Church with the Revs. Tom Fish and Bob Lewis officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Mark Pickett, Richard Sailors, Scott Pastor, Roger Cash, Donald Cash and Mike Isbell.

Ruth Simmons
Ruth Martin Simmons, 68, of Cornelia, died Saturday, March 22, 2008, at a private nursing facility, following an extended illness.
She was born in Banks County on May 7, 1939, the daughter of the late Burie Dean and Mae Reems Martin. She was a homemaker and was Holiness. Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her husband, Coy Simmons; sisters, Addie Stewart and Sally Hardy; and a brother, Roy Martin.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Matt Allen, Alto; sons and daughter-in-law, Lynn and Sonia Simmons, Alto, and Danny Simmons, Cornelia; sisters, Lucille Cagle and Bessie Dooley, both of Homer; grandchildren, Jodie Bochat, Casey Simmons, Eric Simmons, Justin Allen and Courtney Allen.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 24, in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with the Revs. Wes Davis and Lester Haynes officiating. Burial was in Harmony Baptist Church cemetery.

Dorothy Nunn
Dorothy B. Nunn, 77, of Commerce, died Monday, March 24, 2008, at Hill Haven Nursing Home.
Born in Milton County, she was the daughter of the late Segal Lester and Mae Ethel Sexton Fouts. She was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church and was a retired manager of Pic and Pay Shoe Store.
Survivors include her husband, W.T. Nunn, Commerce; daughters, Etheleen Bryant, Temple, Belley Hayes and Ruth Heard, both of Commerce, and JoAnn Compton, Danielsville; a son, Thomas Daniell, Commerce; step-daughter, Elaine Strickland, Danielsville; step-sons, Tony and Tim Nunn, both of Commerce, and Terry Nunn, Jefferson; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Janice Hinson
Janice Marie Owensby Hinson, 56, of Nicholson, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, following an extended illness.
She was the daughter of the late Roy and Winnette Wilbanks Owensby, and was preceded in death by her husband, William Franklin Hinson.
Survivors include a son, William Samuel “Billy” Hinson, Nicholson; daughters, Geraldine Siggers, Toccoa, and Mary Gladys Hargett, Great Falls, S.C.; sister, Judy Pierce, Hull; niece, Barbara Brock Moody, Nicholson; nephew, Jason Beck, Lexington; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Walter Lucas
Walter Lucas, 72, of Wausau, Wis., formerly of Cornelia, died Friday, March 21, 2008.
He was born on January 3, 1936, in Wadsworth, Ill., the son of the late Harold J. and Bertha Ganshaw Lucas. He was a member of the Cornelia Christian Church, was a member of Habersham Life, and was retired from Commonwealth Edison. Mr. Lucas was preceded in death by his wife, Gail Gibbs Lucas; and a brother, Harold Lucas.
Survivors include a daughter, Joelle Lucas, Wausau, Wisc.; step-daughters, Stephanie Hanks, Corpus Christi, Texas, Stacy McKinley, Demorest; sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Lorrie Lucas and Richard and Amy Lucas, all of Wausau, Wisc.; sister; Ellanor Sinesh, Waukegan, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 28, at the Cornelia Christian Church with David Terrell officiating. Burial will be in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Thursday, March 27, at the funeral home, from 4 to 8 p.m.
