Theodore Dalack
Theodore Bruce Dalack, of Pendergrass, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008.
He was the son of the late Assad and Jenny Bonamo Dalack and was most well known locally as a substitute teacher for Jefferson High Schools. He was a combat hero veteran of World War II and Korean War, Air Force First Lieutenant, bombardier. Mr. Dalack was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathleen Patricia; sisters, Marie, Charlotte and Ann; nephews, Randy Dalack and Dean Robinson.
Survivors include a son, Ted Dalack Jr.; brother, George; nieces, Barbara Dimarco, Lynette Coleman, Charlene Wolthausen, Tony Sookraj and Kim Pastor; nephews, Robert Yanus, Garrett DiMarco, David and Alan Machost, Keith and Eddie Wolthausen; great-nieces and nephews, Ashley, Haleigh, Tyler, Allie, Shannon, Lee, Drica, Deana and Megan.
Memorial services will be held at a later date in New Jersey.

‘Tom’ McKenna
Thomas “Tom” McKenna, 36, of Jefferson, formerly of Hackettstown, N.J., died Saturday, March 22, 2008.
He was born on November 16, 1971, in Sussex County, N.J., the son of Terrence J. and Joann Theresa Williams McKenna of Essex, N.Y. He was a network engineer with Scientific Atlanta, and was a veteran, having served in the United States Marine Corps. He enjoyed playing golf and loved his children, loved ones stated.
Survivors in addition to his parents, include his wife, Tina McKenna, Jefferson; sons, Hayden Thomas McKenna (age 8) and Landon Michael McKenna (age 4), all of Jefferson; a sister, Michele Shelly Hepworth, Essex, N.Y.; brother and sister-in-law, Terrance and Bonnie McKenna, Washington, N.J.; grandparent, Isabelle Williams, Port Richey, Fla.; nephew, Matthew McKenna, Washington, N.J.; God Parents, Stanley and Bernice Williams, New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 26, at 8 p.m., in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening before the service. A visitation and service will be held at the Scala Memorial Home in Hackettstown, N.J., on Sunday, March 30, 2008. The burial will follow on Monday, in the Union Cemetery in Hackettstown, N.J.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a trust account in the names of Hayden and Landon McKenna, at the Community Bank & Trust, 71 Memorial Dr., Jefferson, Ga. 30549.

William Lester
William Thomas Lester, 53, of Nicholson, died Monday, March 24, 2008, at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens.
Born in Athens, he was the son of Hazel Pittman Lester of Nicholson and the late James Curtis Lester. He was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church.
Survivors in addition to his mother, include a daughter, Tonya Lester, Nicholson; brothers and sister-in-law, Mike and Patty Lester, Greensboro, David Lester and Marshall Lester, both of Nicholson; sister, Connie Richardson, Nicholson; grandson, Justin Thompson; former wife, Donna Carithers, Covington; and step-son, Steven Carithers.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, March 30, at New Harmony Baptist Church with the Revs. Billy Pittman and Phil Budensiek officiating.
The family has requested that memorials be made to New Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.

Dr. Ed Aderholt Jr.
Hewlett Edwin Aderholt Jr., 80, of Monroe, formerly of Atlanta, died Saturday, March 22, 2008, at his residence, following a lengthy battle with rheumatoid arthritis.
Born on September 11, 1927, in Jefferson, he was the son of the late Boyd Arnall and H.E. Aderholt. He graduated in 1944 from Martin Institute School in Jefferson, where he was president of his high school class, graduated from the University of Georgia in 1949, graduated from the Medical College of Georgia in 1953, and completed a medical and surgical residency at Macon General Hospital in Macon. He practiced medicine in Tifton for 15 years and was the college physician for Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. He moved to Atlanta in 1971 and completed an anesthesia residency at Emory University Hospital. He was an anesthesiologist in Atlanta at Doctor’s Memorial Hospital and Piedmont Hospital, retiring in 1992. Dr. Aderholt was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Monroe and was a veteran, having served in the United States Navy with distinction as a member of the “Greatest Generation”.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Beth Aderholt, Gainesville; daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Steve Morris, Monroe, Mary Aderholt, Norcross, Melinda and Keith Taylor, Marietta; son and daughter-in-law, Edwin and Kim Aderholt, Monroe; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Morris, Matthew Morris, Kelly O’Neill and Kate Taylor; sisters, Emily Barrow, Athens, and Betty Bailey, Jefferson.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 25, at Grace Baptist Church. Burial was at Mt. Vernon Christian Church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Baptist Church, P.O. Box 641, 110 Mears St., Monroe, Ga. 30655.

Janice Hinson
Janice Marie Owensby Hinson, 56, of Nicholson, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, following an extended illness.
She was the daughter of the late Roy and Winnette Wilbanks Owensby, and was preceded in death by her husband, William Franklin Hinson.
Survivors include a son, William Samuel “Billy” Hinson, Nicholson; daughters, Geraldine Siggers, Toccoa, and Mary Gladys Hargett, Great Falls, S.C.; sister, Judy Pierce, Hull; niece, Barbara Brock Moody, Nicholson; nephew, Jason Beck, Lexington; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 21, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home with the Revs. Troy Herbert and Jessie Mealor officiating. Burial was in the Grey Hill Cemetery.

Sarah Little
Sarah Frances Little, 74, died Monday, March 10, 2008, at BJC Medical Center in Commerce.
Born on November 7, 1933, in Banks County, she was the daughter of the late George and Gertis Pruitte Rucker. She joined the Tabor’s Chapel C.M.E. Church at Fort Lamar in Madison County, at an early age. She served there for 22 years. In 1966 she moved to Commerce and joined Mt. Pleasant C.M.E. Church, later joining New Faith Methodist Church in Commerce. She was a devoted church member, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her, according to loved ones. Mrs. Little was preceded in death by her husband, Bishop Little Jr.; ten brothers; and three sisters.
Survivors include a niece, Betty J. Rucker Borders; nephew, Jimmy Usher, Commerce; as well as other nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Geneva Rucker and Ruby Nell Rucker, both of Commerce.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 13, at New Faith Methodist Church in Commerce with the Revs. Frank Earls, Henry Webb and W.R. Brown officiating.

Elizabeth Coleman
Elizabeth Teresa Coleman, 90, of Commerce, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008.
A native of Clarke County, she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Eugenia Ophelia Barber and William F. Coleman Sr. She was a lifelong member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses and lived in this area most of her life.
Survivors include a niece, Nina Leonard, Atlanta; and great-niece, Gretchen Aylor, Atlanta.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 29, at 2 p.m., at the Commerce Kingdom Hall.

Glenn Braselton
Glenn B. Braselton, Jr., 85, of Athens, died Monday, March 17, 2008.
A native of Jackson County, he lived in Athens for the past 41 years and in Birmingham, Ala., for 16 years prior. He was a graduate of Gainesville High School and the University of Georgia. He completed two years at the University of Georgia School of Law and was conferred a juris doctorate degree from the Birmingham School of Law. He was retired from the University of Georgia, College of Agriculture Experiment Stations. Mr. Braselton was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during World War II, and was a member of Milledge Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Glenn B. Braselton III and Cathy Braselton, Port Charlotte, Fla., John C. Braselton and William D. Braselton, both of Athens; and a grandson, Steven T. Braselton, Port Charlotte, Fla.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 20, in the chapel at Bernstein Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Edward Bolen officiating. Burial in Pendergrass Baptist Church Cemetery.
Memorials contributions may be made to Milledge Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund or a favorite charity.

Dorothy Scruggs
Dorothy Hay Scruggs, 91, of Lawrenceville, formerly of Cumming, died Saturday, March 22, 2008.
She was a member of Cross Plains Baptist Church, Queen of Extended Care of Gwinnett Beauty Pageant, and worked at Walt’s Restaurant in Duluth as lead cook for 12 years. Mrs. Scruggs was preceded in death by her husband, Clark Scruggs; sons, Bonnie D. Harold, Clark Jr., Larry, Charles Scruggs; and daughter, Barbara Grant. She loved cooking, sewing and quilting, loved ones stated.
Survivors include children, Daisy Stinchcomb, Gay, Hugh Scruggs, Dahlonega, Mary Stewart, Toccoa, Ann Brand, Commerce, Helen Kirby, Cleveland, Norris Scruggs, Dawsonville, Steve Scruggs, Jasper, Dale Hanners, Elberton, Patricia Johnson, Lawrenceville, Charlotte Harrison, Loganville; 50 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 26, in the Lawrenceville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home with Pastors Johnny Purcell and Ben Elbe officiating. Burial was in Cross Plains Baptist Church Cemetery.

Ruby Nell Brown
Ruby Nell McCollum Brown, 72, of Danielsville, died Saturday, March 22, 2008.
Born in Hart County on April 21, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Seaborn Wright and Ida Estella Stephens McCollum. She was a seamstress and was Holiness. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by a great-grandson, David Kloes.
Survivors include sons, James Kirby and Hoyt Brown, both of Athens, David Kirby, Royston, Ricky Kirby, Nicholson, Tom (Fish) Kirby, Danielsville; companion, Harold Lackey, Danielsville; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 27, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home with the Rev. Clay Huff officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Royston.

Ruth Langford
Ruth Geraldine Langford, 92, of Gillsville, died Saturday, March 22, 2008, following a brief illness.
Born on August 25, 1915, in Jackson County, she was one of nine children born to the late William Joseph and Leah Murphy Cash. Mrs. Langford was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Grady Langford. She was devoted to her family and words cannot express their loss, according to family members.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Rebecca Langford and Larry Sailors, Maysville, and Christa Sue Langford Pickett, Albany; brothers, Carey Cash, Bethlehem, and Myron Cash, Hoschton; sister, Ann Georgine Smith, Waycross; grandchildren, Pam Sailors, Springfield, Mo., Mark Pickett, Albany, Paige Pastor, St. Simon’s Island, Richard Sailors, Maysville; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 25, at the Holly Springs United Methodist Church with the Revs. Tom Fish and Bob Lewis officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Mark Pickett, Richard Sailors, Scott Pastor, Roger Cash, Donald Cash and Mike Isbell.
Memorial contributions may be made to one’s charity of choice.

Johnny Presley
Johnny Ray Presley Sr., 60, of Commerce, Dry Pond Community, died Friday, March 21, 2008.
He was burn in Butler, Ala., the son of the late Eulan Amos and Mary Ola Sibley Presley. He served in the prosthetics department of the VA Hospital in Decatur, and was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Sons of Thunder, Veteran of Foreign Wars and the Association of Disabled Veterans. Mr. Presley was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Ray Presley Jr.; and brother, Tommy Presley.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Watson Presley, Commerce; sons, Curtis Dycus, Huntsville, Ala., Jerry Presley, Nicholson, James Presley, Altamonte Springs, Fla., Kerry Arnold, Commerce, and Jerry Arnold, Braselton; a sister, Jan Paul, Garland, Texas; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one niece; and one nephew.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 24, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Looney officiating. Burial was held Wednesday, March 26, at the Red Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Butler, Ala.

‘Frankie’ Danis
Frantisek “Frankie” Jozef Danis Jr., 35, of Duluth, died Thursday, March 20, 2008, at his residence.
He was born in Ward County, N.D., the son of Frantisek Danis Sr. of Warner Robins, and the late Sherry Prince Danis. He was employed with Roper Pump Company.
Survivors in addition to his father, include a sister, Alicia Dana Danis, Nicholson; brother, Michael Shawn Danis, Nicholson; grandfather, Donald Lord, Commerce; and life partner, Robin Ketchersid, Duluth.
Memorial services were held Monday, March 24, 2008, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home with the Rev. Chad Payne officiating.

Dorothy Nunn
Dorothy B. Nunn, 77, of Commerce, died Monday, March 24, 2008, at Hill Haven Nursing Home.
Born in Milton County, she was the daughter of the late Segal Lester and Mae Ethel Sexton Fouts. She was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church and was a retired manager of Pic and Pay Shoe Store.
Survivors include her husband, W.T. Nunn, Commerce; daughters, Etheleen Bryant, Temple, Belley Hayes and Ruth Heard, both of Commerce, and JoAnn Compton, Danielsville; a son, Thomas Daniell, Commerce; step-daughter, Elaine Strickland, Danielsville; step-sons, Tony and Tim Nunn, both of Commerce, and Terry Nunn, Jefferson; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 26, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home with the Rev. Henry Webb officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens.

Ruth Adamson
Ruth Love Adamson, 83, of Independence, Va., formerly of Commerce, died Thursday, March 20, 2008, following an extended illness.
Survivors include a son, John David Hill, Concord, N.C.; sisters, Eleanor Harper, Gainesville, Margaret Gibson, Ventura, Calif.; brothers, Robert Love, Glen St. Mary, Fla., Roger Love, Athens; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 24, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home. Burial was in the Oconee Baptist Church cemetery.

Florine Reed
Florine Hanes Reed, 87, of Flowery Branch, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at the Bell-Manor Home, following an extended illness.
Born in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Dan and Mardell Martin Hanes and was Presbyterian. Mrs. Reed was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Reed; and granddaughter, Chastity Paige Reed.
Survivors include her husband, Jewell D. Reed, Flowery Branch; sons and daughters-in-law, Randall and Hazel Reed and Buddy and Linda Reed, all of Flowery Branch, and Jerry and Jackie Reed, Oakwood; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Thursday, March 20, in Memorial Park Cemetery with the Revs. Kennedy Smartt and Glen Parrish officiating.

Carmleo Ortiz
Carmleo Ortiz, 73, of Jefferson, died Sunday, March 23, 2008.
He was a native of Puerto Rico, born on May 26, 1934, the son of the late Elio and Nicomedes Rivera Ortiz. He was an automobile mechanic.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Malave Ortiz, Jefferson; and a son, Guillermo Ortiz, Jefferson.
A funeral mass was held Monday, March 24, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Father David McGuiness officiating. The remains were cremated.

‘Jim’ Turner
James Lamar “Jim” Turner, 79, of Hixson, Tenn., formerly of Jefferson, died Tuesday, March 25, 2008.
He was born on November 16, 1928, in Spalding County, the son of the late Thomas Watson and Addie Mae Crane Turner. He was a school teacher, flight line mechanic, cabinet maker, and a home builder. He was Christian and was a veteran, having served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Jim Kurtz, Whitwell, Tenn., Norma and Rick Anderson, Hixson, Tenn., Carol and Ken Cook, Woodstock; sisters and brother-in-law, Merie and Terrell English, Claudette Smith, Peggy Turner, all of Griffin; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Jean Turner, Hampton; grandchildren and spouse, Spring and Chris Atkinson, Gabriel Kurtz, all of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Brian Teague, Woodstock.
Private services will be held by the family.
