Noteworthy qualifying news: Former commissioner Johnny Fitzpatrick resigned April 19 as chairman of the Madison County Democratic Party, then joined the GOP, qualifying to run for his former District 2 seat as a Republican. The current District 2 commissioner, John Pethel, is also a Republican.
