Junior Ivester
Junior Ivester, 72, of Commerce, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at BJC Medical Center in Commerce.
Born in Stephens County on March 8, 1936, he was the son of the late Lemmie Martin and Eppsie Cheek Ivester and was Baptist.
Survivors include sisters, Edith Morrison, Crawford, Betty McLendon, Mary Whitlock and Bertie Gordon, all of Commerce.
Graveside services were held Thursday, May 1, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Henry Webb officiating.
Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of arrangements.

Owen Sudderth
Owen William Sudderth, infant son of Russell and Shauna Sudderth of Maysville, died Friday, May 2, 2008.
He was born April 17, in Gainesville.
Survivors in addition to his parents, include a brother, Evan Sudderth; grandparents, Billy and Sybil Highfield and Bill and Barbara Sudderth; aunts and uncles, Sherry Smith, Charlene and Doug Gazaway, Sharon and Tony Davidson, Darren and Michele Highfield, Sheila and Ken Armstrong, Keenan and Kim Highfield, Vicky and John Krish, Jane and David Smith, Grant Sudderth; and numerous cousins.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, May 6, at the Holly Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery with Pastor Tom Fish officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Foundation, 1687 Tullie Circle, NE, Atlanta, Ga. 30329, or the March of Dimes, 2955 Horizon Park Dr., Suite B, Suwanee, Ga. 30024.

‘Polly’ Pittman
Dorothy Pauline “Polly” Pittman, 85, of Nicholson, died Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at BJC Nursing Home.
Born in Clarke County, she was the daughter of the late Clarke and Wreathea Burroughs Crowe. She was a member of the Gordons Chapel United Methodist Church and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Pittman was preceded in death by her husband, John “Dub” Pittman.
Survivors include a grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Keith and Manda Barnett, Commerce; granddaughter and friend, Wanda Barnett and Mark Perry, Nicholson; great-grandchild, Kady Barnett, Commerce; niece, Patsy Doster, Colbert.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 2, at Nicholson Baptist Church with the Revs. Terry Smith and Bob Habeck officiating. Burial was in the Gordons Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery.

‘Ted’ Strickland
Perry Lee “Ted” Strickland, 63, of Lula, died Thursday, April 24, 2008, at his residence, following an extended illness.
He was the son of Carlton Spencer and Theodocia Duffell Strickland, and was preceded in death by a brother, Danny Thrift. Mr. Strickland was a veteran, having served in the United States Army. He was an electrical technician and was retired from East Hall Hardware. He loved music and gardening and was a beloved husband, father and grandfather, loved ones stated.
Survivors include his loving wife of 37 wonderful years, Sherry “Sue” Strickland, Lula; daughters and son-in-law, Malisa Strickland and Christina and David Smith, all of Lula; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Lee and Brenda Sue Strickland, Lula; grandsons, Josh Price and Christian Smith, both of Lula; granddaughter, Heather Smith, Lula; brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Jayme Strickland, Daytona Beach, Fla.; sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Len Struthers, Winterhaven, Fla.
Memorial services were held Friday, May 2, in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home.

‘Joe’ Morse
Bobby Lee “Joe” Morse Sr., died Sunday, May 4, 2008.
He was born on January, 1945, the son of Sterling Morse Sr. and Cornelia Morse of Sparta. In 1973 he moved his family to Lula. Mr. Morse was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Ann Morse; and a brother, Sterling Morse Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Ruth Ann Morse; a son, Bobby Morse Jr., Lula; five daughters, Deborah, Laura (Kevin) Bailey, Cheryl Hill, Erica and Sandra, all of Lula; eight grandchildren, Lelonda, Darius, Quinshun, Korentheus, Sterling, Jacquez, Sedrion and Zion; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Margret Morse, Decatur; seven sisters, Eloise Wiggins, Mary Sutton, Betty Moore, all of Decatur, Annie (Virgil) Wynn, Dacula, Sarah Morse, Agness Taylor and Glenda Banks, all of Decatur; mother-in-law, Ellen Prickett, Atlanta; brothers-in-law, Benny Allen, David (Roberta) Allen, Decatur, and Willie Shelton, Gainesville; sisters-in-laws, Thelma Mitchell, Bernice Smith, and Wanda Shelton, all of Atlanta; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 8, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with Pastor Veola Thomas and Apostle R.L. Hughey officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 7, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home.

Shaun Whitehead
Staff Sergeant Shaun J. Whitehead, 24, of Ft. Campbell, Ky., formerly of Maysville, died Thursday, April 24, 2008, on dismounted foot patrol in Iskandariyah, Iraq.
He was a native of Commerce, the son of Rebecca Whitehead of Maysville. He was a member of the United States Army serving in Alpha Company, 2 ND Battalion, 502 ND Infantry, Fort Campbell, Ky., as a part of the 101 ST Airborne Division. He had been enlisted in the Army since 2003.
Survivors in addition to his mother, include his wife, Janie Whitehead, Fort Campbell, daughter, Janna Whitehead, Fort Campbell; son, Gabriel Whitehead, Fort Campbell; sister, Amber Whitehead, Maysville; grandfather, Coy O’Shields, Maysville; and many brothers still serving in Iraq.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 3, at the Grove Level Baptist Church with Chaplain Scott McKosh officiating. Burial was in the Center Grove Baptist Church cemetery.

Catherine Gilreath
Catherine Mae Poole Gilreath, 79, of Gainesville, died Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, following a sudden illness.
Born in Hall County, she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Arie Maybel Cagle Poole. She was a member of Corinth Baptist Church, but attended Victory Baptist Church. Mrs. Gilreath was preceded in death by her husband, Ray C. “Grub” Gilreath; daughter, Sandra Gilreath; brothers, Ervin Poole, Denver Poole, Wallace Poole and Clyde Poole; and a sister, Pauline Carter.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Thom Burrier, Cleveland; step-daughter and husband, Barbara and Joe Plunkett, New York; granddaughters, Daphne Skinner, Lula, and Neili Mullinax, Demorest; great-grandchildren, Kassie and Andrew Mullinax and Jacob and Isabella Skinner; sister, Willie Dean Crow, Gainesville; sisters-in-law, Geraldine Poole and Louise Poole, both of Lula; and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 3, in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with the Rev. Scotty Poole officiating. Burial was in Corinth Baptist Church cemetery.

Michael Benefield
Michael Ray Benefield, 50, of Carnesville, died Monday, May 5, 2008, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born in Hall County, he was the son of Willie M. King of Carnesville and the late Cecil William Benefield. He was married to Sherry Faye Benefield, who died from injuries sustained in the same automobile accident.
Survivors in addition to his mother, include daughters, Tina Ann Benefield and Tammy Faye Benefield, both of Carnesville; brothers, Terry, Billy, David and Randolph Benefield, all of Carnesville, and Thomas Benefield, Winder; sisters, Alice Middlebrooks and Michelle Arthur, both of Winder, Linda Mayfield, Jackson County, Yvonne Crist, Louisiana, Dana Gloss, Stephens County; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 7, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home.
Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of arrangements.

Leasey Collins
Leasey Wanda Love Collins, 76, of Gainesville, died Monday, May 5, 2008, at BJC Hospital in Commerce, following an extended illness.
She was born in Marlboro County, S.C., the daughter of the late Newby Franklin and Amanda Ellen Rogers Love. She was a homemaker and was Holiness. Mrs. Collins was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Collins.
Survivors include daughters, Virginia Prochnow and Nita Millwood, both of Lula, and Barbara Padget, Dawsonville; son, Robert Savage, Nashville, Tenn.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Newby Franklin Love Jr., Columbia, S.C., and Lonnie Love, Atlanta; sister, Fannie Maxine Harris, Gaffney, S.C.; and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 8, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with the Rev. Phillip Wehunt officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 7, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
