Martha Carey
Martha Sue Randall Carey, 78, of Royston, died Sunday, May 25, 2008, at her residence.
She was born on December 9, 1929, the daughter of the late Dewey Drew and Gertrude Haley Randall. She was a seamstress and member of the Peniel Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mrs. Carey was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” Daron Carey; a grandson, Jess Carey; and step-grandson, Nick Carey.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Gwen Carey Perkins, Royston, Wanda and Jackson Hart, Danielsville; sons and daughters-in-law, Nelson and Kim Carey and Stanley and Patricia Carey, all of Carnesville, Byron Carey, Royston; sisters, Revonda Strickland and Jean Peeples, both of Royston, Kay Adams and Joan Randall, both of Hartwell; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 27, at Peniel Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Revs. Bert Synan and Tony Moon officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

William Brown
William Jesse Brown, 57, of Commerce, died Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at his residence, following an extended illness.
Born in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Sam and Grace Parker Brown. He worked at CertainTeed Corporation of Athens for 30 years. Mr. Brown made a lot of friends that he considered family, loved ones stated.
Survivors include his wife, Angela Donnette Brown, Commerce; sons and daughters-in-law, Josh and Tiffany Brown, Alto, Nicholas and Kristy Sorrow, Pendergrass; daughter and son-in-law, Nicole and Chad Bridges, Danielsville; sister and brother-in-law, Judy Brown and James O’Kelley, Maysville; brother and sister-in-law, Randall and Bonnie Brown, Cleveland; eight grandchildren, Damian Brown, Patience Chaney, Cody Sorrow, Chase and Kaceen Bridges, Thaddeus Freeman, Payton Freeman and Tori Freeman.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 23, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home with the Rev. Kevin Burgess officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Park.

‘Issie’ Oxford
Sara Isabel “Issie” Corley Oxford, 92, of Elberton, died Thursday, May 22, 2008.
She was born in DeKalb County, the daughter of the late James Malcolm and Martha Elizabeth Weed Corley. She was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church in Lithonia and was a homemaker. Mrs. Oxford was preceded in death by her husband, Lenwood V. Oxford.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty J. Reagin, Carlton; son, Terry L. Oxford, Crystal Lake, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 24, at The Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. David Burt officiating. Burial was in Carlton City Cemetery. Grandsons served as pallbearers and Marshall King was an honorary pallbearer.

Annie Hamby
Annie O’Kelley Hamby, 81, of Athens, died Monday, May 26, 2008.
A native of Oglethorpe County, she was the daughter of the late Doc and Ruby Bryant O’Kelley and was a member of Oconee Heights Baptist Church. Mrs. Hamby was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Hamby Sr.
Survivors include a son, Horace “Sonny” Hamby Jr., Athens; daughter, Jane Hamby Lyon, Athens; brothers, Harold O’Kelley, Winder, Frank O’Kelley, Comer, and Ben O’Kelley, McDonough; sister, Jean O. Sanders, Comer; grandson, Timothy Christopher Lyon, Athens; and great-grandchildren, Ashley and Justin Lyons.
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 29, at Oconee Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Crist Camden officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Eddie O’Kelley, Jimmy O’Kelley, Ronnie Hamby, Bobby Brooks, Wayne Hamby and David Healan.
Memorial contributions may be made to Oconee Heights Baptist Church, 4180 Jefferson Rd., Athens, Ga. 30607, or Hospice Advantage, 135 Athens West Pkwy., Athens, Ga. 30606.

Joe Vaughn
Joe Verner Vaughn, 78, of Homer, died Saturday, May 24, 2008, at BJC Hospital in Commerce.
He was the son of the late Dock and Mae Coker Vaughn and was retired from Garrison Lumber Company.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Vaughn, Homer; sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Sherry Vaughn, Hull, and Rickey and Dessie Vaughn, Commerce; brother, Olin Vaughn, Homer; sisters, Ruth Cotton, Cornelia, and Genell Carlan, Homer; four grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 27, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home with the Revs. Don Blalock and Jerry Payne officiating. Burial was in Banks County Memorial Gardens.

Louise Fincannon
Louise Arnold Fincannon, 76, of Homer, died Saturday, May 24, 2008, at her residence following an extended illness.
Survivors include a son, Larry Roberson, Maysville; daughters, Dianne Langston, Royston, Carolyn Bathurst, Penny Noell and Tammie Arroway, all of Homer; brother, Charles Arnold, Homer; nine grandchildren; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 26, at Silver Shoals Baptist Church with the Rev. Perry Smith officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Peggy Irvin
Peggy Joan Irvin, 79, of Cornelia, died Friday, May 23, 2008, at a local care facility.
She was born on August 5, 1928, in White County, the daughter of the late Lat and Harriett Houston Vandiver. She was a member of the Cornelia First Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and James Norton, Hull; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Gail Irvin, Homer; sister, Vivian Smith, Cleveland; brother, Dan Vandiver, Lula; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 25, at Whitfield Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Crowe officiating. Burial was in Gateway Memorial Gardens in Cleveland.
Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, was in charge of arrangements.

Leila McIntyre
Leila Nicholson McIntyre, 97, of Flowery Branch, died Monday, May 26, 2008.
She was born on March 5, 1911, in Rabun County, was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Mrs. McIntyre was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd R. McIntyre; and a son, Anthony McIntyre.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Mack Simmons, Flowery Branch, Pam and George Little, Sugar Hill, Sheri Black, Braselton; sons and daughter-in-law, Phil and Joyce McIntyre, Colbert, Larry McIntyre, Snellville; 35 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 30, at 1 p.m., in the chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Bishop David Bassett officiating. Burial will follow at 2:45 p.m. in Eternal Hills Memory Gardens in Snellville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, May 29, from 4 until 9 p.m.
