Presidential election proving to be puzzling
More ramblings from my political notebook as the summer heat arrives a little too early this year:
November is still months away, but I’m having a hard time getting a read on just who will be our next president.
John McCain doesn’t seem to be the strongest choice the Republicans could have made and despite the rock star status some have placed on him, Democrat Barack Obama also has numerous weaknesses.
I think it will be important for both candidates to carefully choose their running mates. A slip-up here could be costly. John Kerry made a questionable choice in 2004 in John Edwards in that the choice really didn’t benefit him in any way.
An interesting sidenote in the race is that Libertarian Bob Barr is continuing to gain ground in the race. This has many Republicans concerned since the old school thinking is that Libertarians draw votes from Republicans. In reality, Libertarians also draw votes from Democratic candidates because of their stance on civil liberties.
If Barr can continue to climb in the polls, he will be included in the debates along with McCain and Obama. Barr is a strong speaker and would excel in this format and could really throw a wrench into the proceeding. Personally, I would be glad to see it.
If there was any doubt as to which news network is truly biased one only has to look at the “political analysts” which are used.
On one hand, FOX News trots outs Karl Rove, who in no way can be called unbiased. How anyone can expect an honest opinion from Rove is beyond my comprehension.
CNN, meanwhile, has Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Carl Bernstein as one of its top analysts. Bernstein is an actual reporter who reports what he sees without fear or favor.
Rove is nothing more than a right-wing hack who helped the current President with most of his failed policies.
Now which network can really be trusted for fair and balanced coverage?
For laughs, I tuned into the Rush Limbaugh radio show recently. No one can truly take Limbaugh seriously these days as his credibility has long since been destroyed.
However, it is worth a listen for a few minutes anyway as Limbaugh, referred to by one national talk show host as a “comedian,” tries to cling to the past and try to convince us that Ronald Reagan was the best thing since the invention of the wheel.
One poor caller even begged Limbaugh to please do something to stop the Democrats from winning back the White House this November. Limbaugh, never one to be accused of having a lack of ego, told the caller, “I appreciate your confidence in me...”
Poor Limbaugh and his Dittoheads, slipping further into the abyss with each passing day.
Speaking of out of touch, have you had a chance to listen to Sean Hannity’s radio show or seen him on FOX News? Cut from the same cloth as Limbaugh, Hannity is so far removed from what the average working family goes through it is ridiculous.
Hannity, once upon a time, was based in Atlanta, and filled the airwaves with his right wing banter until he left for the greener pastures of the New York market. Hannity can’t seem to comprehend why the man and woman who works for every penny they get doesn’t go along with his illogical line of thinking. He would be funny as well if he honestly didn’t believe what he was saying.
