Herald gets top state award
The Jackson Herald was named Georgia’s best weekly newspaper in its division at the recent Georgia Press Association awards banquet.
The Herald garnered 16 awards at the event, including first place in General Excellence for weekly newspapers over 5,000 in circulation.
Among its individual awards, The Herald finished with first place honors for Business Coverage (Jana Mitcham), Hard News Writing, Best Sports Section and Sports Writing (Allen Luton).
The Herald also received second place awards for Community Service, Editorial Page, Editorial Writing, News Photograph (April Reese Sorrow), Serious Column (Mike Buffington), Sports Photograph (Allen Luton) and Spot News Photo (April Reese Sorrow).
The newspaper also took home several third place awards for Page One, Sports Feature Photo (Allen Luton), Sports Photo (Lyn Sengupta), and Education Coverage (Jana Mitcham).
The Herald’s sister newspaper, The Commerce News, won second in General Excellence for its division, bringing home 13 total awards.
