Forums set for next week
What do potential county commissioners think about growth, taxes, roads? What kind of leaders will they be?
Madison County voters will have two opportunities next week to learn more about those who seek to serve them at the county commissioners’ table, with one forum set for Tuesday and another scheduled for Thursday.
Local primary elections are set for July 15 and five of the six seats at the BOC table will be contested on that day, with all but two spots at the table wrapped up during the primaries.
Property Owners for Common Sense Growth (POCSG) will hold a candidate forum for BOC contestants from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, June 24, at the Madison County High School Theater.
Candidates for all county officers are invited to meet the voters from 6 to 7 p.m. Refreshments will be offered.
Candidates running for offices other than the BOC will be introduced from the stage at 6:30. Then at 7 p.m., candidates for the BOC will take the stage and field audience questions that have been written and turned in prior to 6:45 p.m.
“The questions will have been checked to eliminate any personal content and the Forum will be moderated by Dr. Louise Wicker of Comer, professor in the UGA Department of Food Science and Technology,” organizers said. “Some questions of general interest will have been answered by the candidates prior to the forum and will be available to the public as handouts that night.”

REPUBLICAN FORUM
The Madison County Republican Party will hold a forum at 7 p.m., Thursday, June 26, in the high school theater for GOP candidates for county commission chairman and district commission representatives.
County Republicans are also planning a meet and greet at the county library Saturday, June 21, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Doors open at 8:15 a.m. with a continental breakfast.
“This meeting provides a perfect opportunity to meet with our Republican candidates and personally talk with each one,” organizers said.
Madison County has 17 Republican candidates running for the offices of county chairman, district commissioner, sheriff and tax commissioner.
