Jack Herr
Jack Lee Herr, 69, of Jefferson, died Thursday, June 19, 2008, at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, following a sudden illness.
He was born in Sheldon, Iroquois County, Ill., the son of the late Maurice and Hazel Long Herr and was a member of Free Chapel Worship Center. He moved to North Georgia in 1984 and was employed in the commercial steel business. Mr. Herr was preceded in death by sisters, Bobbie Sparhawk and Diana Asoero; and a brother, Maurice Herr Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Valerie Henry Herr, Jefferson; daughters and sons-in-law, Julie Ann and Dave Rindahl, Oakwood, Lisa Marie and Rik Woodward, Ogdensburg, N.Y., and Jodi Lane and Johnny Godwin, Bethlehem; sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Holly Herr, Flushing, Mich., and Jason and Jenny Holliday, Sparta, Wis.; 14 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sisters and brothers-in-law, Della Craig, Delphi, Ind., Cora and Larry Ware, Ft. Myers, Fla., Noreeta and Max Pearson, South Bend, Ind., Cheryl and Ernie Beard, Lafayette, Ind.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Leonard and Rita Herr, Lafayette, Ind., Richard and Kerry Herr, Apopka, Fla., and Duane and Beth Herr, Greenville, Tenn.; and a number of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Memorial services were held Sunday, June 22, in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home.

William Baker
William Horace Baker, 73, of Maysville, died Saturday, June 21, 2008, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
He was born in Jackson County, the son of the late Orville and Cora Lee Watkins Baker. Mr. Baker was preceded in death by brothers, Alford Baker and Shirley Baker; and a sister, Modell Sorrows.
Survivors include his wife, Martha M. Baker, Maysville; daughters, Patsy Wiley, Banks County, and Phyllis Collins, Hull; a son, William Fred Baker, Bryson City, N.C.; brothers, W.C. Baker, Bob Baker, Lonnie Baker, Calvin Baker and Wendy Baker; sister, Jean Richey; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 23, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home with the Rev. David Strickland officiating. Burial was in Howington Cemetery.

Rose Marie Livingston
Rose Marie Livingston, 79, of Braselton, died Thursday, June 19, 2008, at her residence.
A native of Hamilton, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Rosa Jennings Ketchum. A former Oakwood resident, she had lived in Braselton for the past two and one-half years. Mrs. Livingston was preceded in death by her husband, Jack C. Livingston.
Survivors include children, Virginia Tackett, Lake Mary, Fla., Aileen Tillotson, Woodbury, Tenn., and Betty Martin, Braselton; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in Michigan at a later date.

Tabitha Haynie
Tabitha Bridges Haynie, 27, of Talmo, died Saturday, June 21, 2008, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, following a brief illness.
A native of Greenville, S.C., she was the daughter of Larry Suttles of Walhala, S.C. and Cathy Young of Talmo. She was a graduate of Wade Hampton High School and was a member of New Walk Christian Church, where she served as an elder of the Church and as associate youth pastor.
Survivors in addition to her parents, include her husband, Daymon Haynie, Talmo; sons, Logan Haynie, Asa Haynie and Caleb Haynie, all of Talmo; daughter, Abbgale Haynie, Talmo; brother, Lonnie Bridges, Spartanburg, S.C.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 24, in the chapel of Mason & Ward Funeral Home with the Rev. Dewayne Payne officiating.

Henry Wilson
Henry Nathaniel Wilson Jr., 73, of Nicholson, died Sunday, June 22, 2008, at his residence.
Born in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Henry Nathaniel Wilson Sr. and Ruzell Garner Smallwood. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army, and was a retired truck mechanic. Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by a son, Clarence Austin Brown Jr.; and a brother, Frank Smallwood.
Survivors include his wife, Jane McEver Wilson, Nicholson; daughters, MaryAnn Blevins, Ila, Carolyn Brown, Nicholson, and Sherri Smith, Gainesville; brother, Howard Smallwood, Atlanta; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 25, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Wilson officiating. Burial was in Nicholson Cemetery.

‘Kitty’ Howard
Catherine “Kitty” Guest Howard, 71, of Crawford, died Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens.
She was born in Oglethorpe County, the daughter of the late S.T. and Lillian Gunter Guest. She was retired after 30 years from Reliance Electric and was Methodist.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Clifford Warren Howard Sr.; children and spouses, Warren Howard, Commerce, Arthur and Gail Howard, Madison, Cathy and William Donohoe, Karen and Frank Patman, all of Crawford; sister and brother-in-law, Valjean and Randy Rutledge, Crawford; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 19, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. John Parker officiating. Burial was at Mt. Pleasant Apostolic Church Cemetery.

Evelyn Miller
Evelyn Brown Miller, 91, of Gainesville, died Sunday, June 22, 2008, at her residence.
Born on December 11, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Johnnie and Louise Marchbanks Brown. She worked for a time at New Holland Cotton Mill and spent the remainder of her life as a homemaker and wonderful mother. Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her baby, Mary Ann Miller; and several brothers.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Jack Miller, Gainesville; daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and David Pierce and Genell and Roger Armour, all of Gainesville, Belinda and Dave Cash, St. George Island, Fla.; grandchildren, Brandon and Carly Pierce, Brenton and Amy Pierce, Kasey and Chad Bolton, Christie and Hastin Slaton; great-grandchildren, Erica and Corder Pierce, Morgan and Hannah Pierce, Noah, Jonah and Luke Thomas Bolton; and a brother, Howard Brown, Commerce.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 24, in the chapel of Little-Davenport Funeral Home with the Revs. Wilburn Peeples and Cleve Scovill officiating. Burial was in Springway Baptist Church Cemetery.

Jimmie Chancey
Jimmie J. Chancey, 54, of Winterville, died Thursday, June 19, 2008.
He was the son of the late Estelle Rose Bales and Walter Ernest Chancey Sr., and was a member of Center Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Felicia “Lisa” Chancey; sons, Jimmy Chancey Jr., Christopher and Jamie Smith; daughter, Lisa Elaine Dillon; brothers, Randy, Leroy and Walter E. Chancey Jr.; sisters, Annie Ruth Harvey and Jean Bennett; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 23, at Center Baptist Church in Nicholson, with the Revs. Gary Prater, Henry Bennett and Wayne Wills officiating. Burial was at Arcade Full Gospel Oneness Church.

Paul James
Paul James, of Clarkesville, died peacefully at Gateway Health in Cleveland, surrounded by family and loved ones.
He was a native of Clarkesville and was retired from Habersham Mill, where he worked in the carding department. Mr. James was preceded in death by brothers, Jesse Harold James, Fred James, Bill James, Edwin James and John James. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 53 loving years, Martha Nell Chambers James, Clarkesville; a son, Charles Newton James, Clarkesville; sisters, Grace Grogan, Braselton, and Pat Patterson, Gillsville; niece, Helen Seabolt, Clarkesville; and many other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 20, at Hillside Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Charles Morrison and Marvin Beasley officiating Burial was at Alley’s Chapel.

Dora Mae Irwin
Dora Mae Irwin, 77, of Athens, died Wednesday, June 18, 2008.
She was born in Forsyth County on October 31, 1930, the daughter of the late John and Mae Sargent. She and her family was raised in the South Jackson County area for most of their lives, and was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Green; and a grandchild, Heather Lynn Green.
Survivors include children, Johnny and Juanita Irwin, Ila, Dennis and Lisa Irwin Craft, Bogart, Richard and Julie Irwin Standridge and Meco Irwin Robinson, all of Athens, Ronald L. Green, Nicholson, and David “Gene” Robinson, Commerce; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 20, in the chapel of Bridges Funeral Home with the Rev. Carol Fletcher officiating. Burial was in Mt. Tabor Baptist Church Cemetery. Grandsons were pallbearers.

Vera Hopkins
Vera E. Hopkins, 84, formerly of Lilburn and Auburn, died Saturday, June 21, 2008, following a period of declining health.
She was the daughter of the late Jim and Annie Corley, and was a member of Auburn First Baptist Church and served in the Mulberry Associational WMU. Mrs. Hopkins was preceded in death by her husband, Julius “Jake” Hopkins; and a son, Randy W. Hopkins.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Amos F. and Greta Hopkins, Lawrenceville, and his children, Dennis Hopkins and wife Karen, Marion Neururer and husband Stan and their children John and Julie, Paulette Fowler and husband Jim; daughter, Jennie Hopkins Massey and husband David, Hoschton, and their children, son, Anthony Massey and wife Tammy, and their daughters Briana, Jordan and Brooke; Emily Worley and husband Chris and their sons, Derek and Cole, Randy Massey and wife Tundi, and son Jordan; daughter, Marcia Hopkins Cravey and husband Ricky, McRae, and their daughter, Amy.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 23, in the Lawrenceville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home. Burial was at First Baptist Church Cemetery in Lilburn.

‘Jackie’ Rickman
Ellouise “Jackie” Metheny Rickman, 83, of Athens, formerly of Piggott, Ark., died Saturday, June 14, 2008, in Athens.
She was born on September 26, 1924, in Pontiac, Mich., the daughter of the late Boyd and Flora Webster Potter.
She was united in marriage on August 30, 1945, to Dossie Metheny.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Dewayne and Pam Metheny, Hoschton, Reggie and Bobbie Metheny and son, Cody, Jefferson; and many relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 17, in the First United Methodist Church in Piggott, Ark., with Charles Cooper officiating. Burial was in Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jeff Howell, Brent Coomer, Gary Moffitt, Dennis Fraysher, Dan Gossett and Cody Metheny.

Joseph Seay
Joseph Edward Seay, 81, of Gastonia, N.C., died Tuesday, June 17, 2008.
Born in Banks County, he was the son of the late William Harrison and Chester Parr Seay. He was a retired supervisor with Knit Products Corporation. He was a member of the Belmont Masonic Lodge, member of the Catawba Heights Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, and was a former member of Stowe Memorial Baptist Church, where he was a former Sunday school superintendent and deacon. He was preceded in death a sister, Mozelle Lord; and brothers, Otis, J.B. and Lewis Seay. Mr. Seay was a veteran, having served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Princeton.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Purcell Seay; daughter and son-in-law, Trish Seay and Johnny Baucom, Kannapolis; son and daughter-in-law, William Joseph and Jean Seay, Alexis; grandchildren, Melissa Duncan, Jeanna Johnson, William Seay Jr. and Julia Seay; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucille Jacks, Maysville, and Mary Sue King, Bonaire; and a brother, Fred Seay, Gainesville.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 19, at Woodlawn Funeral Home with Dr. Ernest S. Purcell and the Rev. Tommy Seay officiating. Burial was at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery.

Hoyt Anderson
Hoyt W. Anderson, 87, of Athens, died Friday, June 20, 2008, at the Cobb Healthcare Center in Comer.
He was born in Pocatella, the son of the late Julian Lawson and Hattie Lee Wheeler Anderson. Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Hanley; and brothers, J.P. Anderson, Howard Anderson and Roy Anderson. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Osborne Anderson; children, Francis Parker, Augusta, William Anderson, Gardner, Mass., Frankie Walters, Dunbar, W.V., Dianne Rucker, Lewisville, N.C., and Delphine Bullock, Arnoldsville; sisters, Mildred Hix, Commerce, Lorene Guest, Toccoa, and Marie Turner, Snellville; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 23, at Galilee Holiness Church in Ila with the Rev. Larry Dyer officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Sharon Gresham
Sharon Forrester Gresham, 64, of Gainesville, died Saturday, June 21, 2008, at her residence surrounded by her family and friends, following an extended illness.
She was born August 1, 1943, in Hall County, the daughter of the late B.D. Forrester and Hazel Forrester of Lula. Mrs. Gresham was preceded in death by her husband, John (J.T.) Gresham; and brothers, Sandy Forrester and Ricky Forrester. She was Baptist.
Survivors in addition to her mother, include sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Mandy Gresham, Rick and Beverly Gresham, all of Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Matt DeLong, Gainesville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sam and Charlotte Forrester, Jerry and Jane Forrester, Phil and Vickie Forrester, Ben Forrester, all of Gainesville, Edd Forrester, Lula; sisters and brothers-in-laws, Shirley and John Buffington, Gillsville, Vickie and Hugh Rice, Gainesville; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Forrester, Gainesville; grandson and wife, T.J. and Carlee Gresham, Gainesville; granddaughters, Haley Gresham and Skyler Proctor, both of Gainesville; great-grandson, Gavin Schwartz, Gainesville; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 24, in the chapel of Lakewood Baptist Church with Dr. Tom Smiley and the Rev. Dean Bryant officiating. Burial was in County Line Baptist Church Cemetery in White County.

Hazel Bridges
Hazel Bridges, 82, of Commerce, died Monday, June 23, 2008, at Embracing Hospice in Snellville.
She was born in Madison County on June 5, 1926, the daughter of the late Paul and Ora Vesta Wilson Davis. She was a member of Madison Street Baptist Church in Commerce and had a passion for antiques and gardening. Mrs. Bridges was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Bridges.
Survivors include a son, Dennis Bridges, Commerce; daughter-in-law, Judy Bridges; daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Ricky Thomas, Snellville; grandson and spouse, Adam and Darcie Thomas, Suwanee; granddaughters, Ashley and Johnathan Golliher, Norcross, and Jill and Scott Matthews, Cumming; three great-grandchildren, Isabella and Garrett Matthews, Cumming, and Gracie Diane Thomas, Suwanee.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 26, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home with the Rev. David Harbin officiating. Burial will be at Jackson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 25, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
