Class Action Lawsuit Filed Against Fieldale Farms
and Habersham Bank
Homer, Georgia - Civil rights attorney, Robert Sharp, Jr., of
the Sharp Law Offices, P.C. of Chicago, Ill., join local attorney
Yolanda-Williams Favors, daughter of the Rev. Hosea Williams
to bring class action lawsuit on behalf of poultry growers in
Northeast Georgia against Fieldale Farms Corporation of Baldwin,
Georgia for cheating farmers out of profits and for allegedly
conspiring with Habersham Bank in causing the foreclosure of
at least 100 homes and farms of poultry growers. Attorney Sharp
began his crusade on behalf of poultry growers by filing a 500
million dollar lawsuit against Fieldale for terminating the grower
contract of Victor Blockum, a black poultry grower on the basis
of his race. The case is still pending in court.
Attorney Sharp states, that in interviewing witnesses for the
Blockum case, he soon realized that Fieldale has no regard for
the rights of others regardless of their race and brought this
class action lawsuit on behalf of the 23 named plaintiffs. Last
month, Billy Parten, a witness for the Blockum case, suddenly
changed his testimony and refused to testify on behalf of Blockum.
Fieldale and their attorneys were accused of witness tampering
and Mr. Parten was subsequently arrested and charged with perjury.
Attorney Sharp hopes that the arrest of Billy Parten will send
a message to others that witness tampering or intimidation will
not be tolerated and that others will be encouraged to come forward
and join the class action lawsuit.
Paid for by class action plaintiffs.
