MRS. STOWE
Former bookkepper
COMMERCE - Mrs. Sarah C. Stowe, 82, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000,
at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Mrs. Stowe was born April 13, 1918, in Commerce. She was a daughter
of the late Charles Obidiah and Marie Steele Crocker.
Mrs. Stowe had worked as a bookkeeper. She was preceded in death
by her husband, Bob Stowe.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 29, in
the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with Robert Flippo
and Terry Ault officiating. Burial will be in Grey Hill Cemetery,
Commerce.
Mrs. Stowe is survived by one brother, Gene S. Crocker, Charlotte,
N.C.; sister-in-law, Lois D. Crocker, Macon; and a number of
nieces and nephews.
The family was to have received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday
at the funeral home.

A.M.E. Church
JEFFERSON - The Rev. J.B. Lester, Pastor Emeritus of Paradise
A.M.E. Church, Jefferson, died Friday, June 23, 2000.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 27, at Paradise A.M.E.
Church.
The Rev. Lester is survived by his wife, Mrs. Myra Lester; children,
Dr. and Mrs. Neal Lester (Adelina), Mr. and Mrs. Tim Jordan (Gloria),
Cynthia Ivory, Renee Wilson, Tyrone Wilson and Mr. and Mrs. Shanta
Dalton (Sherie); sisters, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Hopkins (Martha),
Hattie Mathis and Diane Randolph; brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Matthew
Lester (Annie), Mr. and Mrs. Willie Lester (Mamie) and Mr. and
Mrs. Freddie Lester (Nancy); eight grandchildren, two uncles,
three aunts, two great-aunts and a host of other relatives and
friends.
Mason Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of announcements.

MRS. LOONEY
Homemaker
JEFFERSON - Mrs. Merdell Carder Looney, 74, died Friday, June
23, 2000, at Athens Regional Medical Center following an extended
illness.
Mrs. Looney was born in Jackson County, a daughter of the late
Elisha Carder and Ora Garrett Carder.
She was a homemaker and a member of Apple Valley Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 25, in the chapel of
Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Revs. Lee Hunter and
Vaughn Howington officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial
Gardens.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Looney; two sons, Rex Looney,
Jefferson, and Steve Looney, Commerce; one daughter, Pat Hill,
Jefferson; one sister, Sara Stewart, Jefferson; one brother,
Lammie Carder, Commerce; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Evans Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MR. ANDERSON
Salesman
MAYSVILLE - Carl William Anderson, 55, died Thursday, June 22,
2000, at his residence following an extended illness.
Born in Jackson County, Mr. Anderson was a son of Cora Lee Marlow
Anderson, Maysville, and the late Marvin Anderson.
He served in the Army National Guard for 30 years and had worked
as a salesman for A.L. Welding Supply Co., also with 30 years
of service. Mr. Anderson served as fire chief for the Plainview
Fire Department, was past president of the Jackson County Fireman's
Association and was a member of the Jackson County Water Authority.
He was also a member of Center Grove Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 25, in the chapel of
Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Revs. Johnny Ray and
Bob Lewis officiating. Burial was in the Center Grove Baptist
Church cemetery. Bill Sanders, Burt Sanders, Randy Ragan, Ricky
Sanders, Dwight Langford, Greg Embrick, Calvin Sanders and Scott
Sanders served as pallbearers.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Linda
K. Anderson; sons and daughters-in-law, Blake and Tara Anderson
and Troy and Sharon Anderson, all of Maysville; daughter and
son-in-law, Robin and C.J. Sykes, Maysville; two brothers, Ray
Anderson and Joel Anderson, both of Maysville; and four grandchildren,
Kaitlyn Sykes, Zachary and Mallory Anderson and Carlie Anderson.
Evans Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. CARITHERS
Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church rites
COMMERCE - Mrs. Minnette Carithers, 86, died Thursday, June 22,
2000.
Mrs. Carithers was a daughter of the late Andrew and Alice Mathis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, O'Dell John Carithers,
and a daughter, Mary Anna Reed.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 28, at Mt. Calvary
Missionary Baptist Church with the Revs. W.R. Brown, Leroy Doe,
W.F. Pattman and Ken Sims officiating.
Mrs. Carithers is survived by a son, Robert Louis Carithers,
Wichita, Kan.; two sisters, Alice Pittman and Betty Mathis, both
of Commerce; and six grandchildren.
Forestglen Mortuary Inc. was in charge of arrangements.
