Notice
The Georgia Department
of Transportation to Hold
A Location and Design
Public Hearing for Project
NH-002-6(51), Jackson
and Hall Counties
P.I. No. 122150
On February 28, 2001, the Georgia Department of Transportation
will hold a public hearing concerning the proposed Location and
Design of Project NH-002-6(51), Jackson and Hall Counties. The
hearing will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Georgia
Department of Transportation District 1 Office located at 2505
Athens Highway, Southeast, Gainesville, GA 30507.
Project NH-002-6(51), Jackson and Hall Counties is proposed as
the widening and reconstruction of US 129/SR11 from SR 332 in
Jackson County to SR 323 in Hall County. The existing roadway
would be widened from two lanes to four lanes separated by a
44-foot median.
The proposed widening would begin on the east side of US 129/SR
11 at the end of the existing three lane section at SR 332. It
would proceed on the east side until it reaches CR 205/Talmo
Trail where it would transition to the west side. From this point,
the widening would remain on the west side until it reaches SR
346, where it would transition to the east side and remain until
it reaches a point north of Sosebee Road. From there, the widening
would shift to the west side and proceed until it reached CR
759/Al Mangum Road. At this point, the widening would transition
to the east side and continue to a point south of CR 776/Bob
Bryant Road. From this point, the widening would transition to
the west side and remain until it reached CR 757/Roy Parks Road
where it would shift back to the east side. From there, the widening
would proceed on the east side until it reached Squires Road.
At Squires Road, the widening would shift back to the west side
and continue to the northern terminus of the project at SR 323
where it would tie into the existing four-lane section.
The proposed widening would realign several intersections on
the project. The intersections with CR 205/Talmo Trail, SR 346,
Sosebee Road, CR 754/Adams Circle, Wallace Road and CR 780/Barrett
Road would be realigned to intersect US 129/SR 11 at a 90 degree
angle. The existing roadway at Blackstock Drive would be closed
and traffic would utilize Blackstock Road to access US 129/SR
11.
The typical section for the project would be a rural section
(open ditch) consisting of four 12-foot lanes separated by a
44-foot grass median with 10-foot shoulders. The proposed right-of-way
would vary from 160 feet to 200 feet. The existing roadway varies
between two to three lanes with 2- to 6-foot shoulders on a 100-foot
right-of-way. The total project length is 7.4 miles.
Representatives from the Department of Transportation will be
available from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with plans and displays.
The public will have an opportunity to attend the hearing at
its convenience to ask questions and discuss the project with
a Department representative. Relocation assistance will be discussed
at the hearing. There will be no formal presentation.
A court reporter will be available during this time to allow
the public an opportunity to make comments about the project.
These comments will be included in the transcript of the hearing.
Written statements may be submitted to: Mr. Harvey D. Keepler,
State Environmental/Location Engineer, 3993 Aviation Circle,
Atlanta, Georgia 30336-1593
Written statements should be sent by March 12, 2001. The displays
at the public hearing will be available for ten days for review
after the public hearing at the Georgia Department of Transportation
District 1 Office located at 2505 Athens Highway, Southeast,
