MR. ETERNO
Retired locksmith
HOMER - Joseph Sebastian Eterno, 80, died Saturday, June 16,
2001, at his residence.
Born February 8, 1921, in Wayne County, Mich., Mr. Eterno was
the son of the late Vincent William and Frances Nazione Eterno.
He was a retired locksmith and was a member of St. Catherine
Labouré Catholic Mission. Mr. Eterno was also a member
of the American Legion, Gainesville Lodge #219 F&AM and the
Fraternal Order of Police.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, at St.
Catherine Labouré Catholic Mission with Father Richard
Tibbits officiating.
Mr. Eterno is survived by his wife, Mary Lois Jones Eterno, Homer;
one son, Vincent Eterno, Homer; three daughters, Rose Adams,
Maysville, Jenifer Perry Hinson, Cornelia, and Francine Salbatore,
Armada, Mich.; two sisters, Jennie Pernicano, San Diego, Calif.,
and Frances Turner, New Baltimore, Mich.; and 13 grandchildren.

MR. STEPHENSON
Employed with Roper Pump Company
COMMERCE - Bobby Dwight "Bird" Stephenson, 42, died
Saturday, June 16, 2001.
Mr. Stephenson was born April 11, 1959, in Jackson County. He
was a son of Leon and Frances Cowart Stephenson, Commerce.
Mr. Stephenson was employed with Roper Pump Company. He was preceded
in death by his grandparents, Johnnie Sue and Odell Stephenson.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, in the
chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Donald
Wilson officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Mr. Stephenson is survived by his wife, Tammy Reed Stephenson,
Commerce; two sons, Michael Reed and Bobby Stephenson, both of
Commerce; and two brothers, Josh Stephenson, Danielsville, and
Mickey Stephenson, Commerce.
Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. TUCKER
Former school teacher
ATHENS - Mrs. Ellie Merle Tucker, 90, died Sunday, June 17, 2001.
A native of Madison County, Mrs. Tucker was born August 7, 1910,
a daughter of the late Luther and Cora Allen Ginn.
She was a former school teacher in Madison County during the
1930s and was a member of the First Christian Church of Athens.
Mrs. Tucker was active in Brownie and Girl Scouts as a leader,
as well as the Cub and Boy Scouts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Allen Tucker.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, in the
chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with Minister Jerry
Payne officiating. Burial was in the Harmony Christian Church
cemetery. Leonard Ginn, Joe Ginn and Mike Lacey served as pallbearers.
Mrs. Tucker's nephews, Boyd Drake, Coley Lacey, Dennis Drake,
Ricky Dalton, and Dr. Sam Vickery, served as honorary pallbearers,
along with friends, Donald Cofer and George Hart.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Sid and Karen Tucker,
Granbury, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Pat Tucker Garrison
and Billy Garrison, Commerce; grandchildren, Sidney L. Tucker
Jr., Rowlett, Texas, Thomas Lloyd Allen Tucker, Augusta, Kan.,
Joe Allen Tinsley Jr., Valdosta, and Patricia Ann Tinsley, Atlanta;
and a great-grandson, Sidney L. Tucker III, Wichita, Kan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's
Association, 3120 Raymond Drive, Atlanta, GA 30340.

MR. MCINTOSH
Kentucky native
COMMERCE - Franklin Clay McIntosh, 53, died Thursday, June 14,
2001, at his residence following a sudden illness.
Born in Hazard, Ky., Mr. McIntosh was a son of Johnny Clay McIntosh,
Gainesville, and the late Geneva Turner McIntosh.
He was employed as a dry wall delivery man.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 16, at Cabin
Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Lester Turner officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors, in addition to his father, include two sons, Franklin
Clay McIntosh II, Cumming, and Jeffrey Lee McIntosh, Nicholson;
two daughters, Sheila Halcomb, Cumming, and Carrie Strickland,
Nicholson; four sisters, Rella Fay Fletcher, Frankfort, Ky.,
Linda Lou Turner Lane, Gainesville, Mary Elizabeth McIntosh,
Jefferson, and Jallie Louise Caudill, Alpharetta; two brothers,
Kelly Ray McIntosh, Versailes, Ky., and Jerry McIntosh, Maron,
Ohio; and eight grandchildren.

Retired seamstress
COMMERCE - Miss Elyta Brock, 85, died Saturday, June 16, 2001,
at BJC Nursing Center.
Miss Brock was born February 28, 1916, in Georgia, a daughter
of the late Henry and Mittie Lee Smith Brock.
She was a retired seamstress with Blue Bell Manufacturing and
was a member of Madison Street Baptist Church, Commerce.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, at
Grove Level Baptist Church, Homer, with the Rev. Donald Wilson
officiating.
Miss Brock is survived by three nieces.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Mother of three
GAINESVILLE - Mrs. Bennie Mae Hughes, 65, died Monday, June 18,
2001, at her residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. Hughes was a native of Hall County and had lived in the
county for a number of years. She was a member of Oakwood Church
of God.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at Oakwood
Church of God with the Revs. Mike Grizzle and Ray Turpin officiating.
Burial was in Hillside Gardens, Gainesville.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna Jones, Flowery Branch,
and Lynn Blume, Winser, S.C.; one son, Arthur Roy "Sammy"
Hughes Jr., Maysville; one sister, Vera Wiley, Gainesville; five
grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

MR. STANDRIDGE
U.S. Military retiree
GALVESTON, TEXAS - Tommy Andrew Standridge Sr., 65, died Friday,
June 8, 2001, in Galveston, Texas.
Mr. Standridge was born in Jackson County, in 1936, and resided
in South Carolina for 21 years before retiring to Crystal Beach,
Texas, in 1993. He retired from 21 years of dedicated service
from the Lexington, South Carolina, Post Office after having
retired from 21 years of service with the U.S. Military. Mr.
Standridge achieved the rank of First Sergeant in the U.S. Army
and was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, the Army Commendation
Medal, the Bronze Star and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry.
He was married to Sandra Elizabeth Standridge on May 7, 1959.
Mr. Standridge was an active member of the Crystal Beach Fire
Department, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #3719 and was a
Mason with Lodge 152 AFM, Lexington, S.C.
Mr. Standridge was a loving individual dedicated to his family
and actively involved to improve the quality of life for his
community, said family members. He always had a kind word and
smile for everyone who crossed his path. His many friends and
relatives that shared the laughter, the beauty and the special
unforgettable moments that will be forever etched in their memories,
by having shared their lives with Tommy, will miss him.
Funeral services were held at 12 noon Tuesday, June 12, at Bay
Vue United Methodist Church, Crystal Beach, Texas, with the Rev.
Malcolm Monroe officiating. Graveside services were held at Houston
National Cemetery, Houston, Texas, with Military Honors.
Mr. Standridge is survived by his wife, Sandra Elizabeth Standridge;
four sons, Tommy A. Standridge Jr., Russell B. Standridge, Robert
D. Standridge and Lee A. Standridge; six grandchildren, which
he adored; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann and Jerry Chitwood
and Mary and Kenneth Danials; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill
and Diane Standridge, Samuel and Hossie Standridge, Paul and
Shirley Standridge and Bobby and Elaine Standridge.
Memorials may be made to the Bay Vue United Methodist Church
Building Fund, or to a charity of one's choice.

MRS. STROM
Minnesota native
ATLANTIC BEACH, FLA. - Mrs. Marjory Lansing Strom died Friday,
June 8, 2001, at Fleet Landing Retirement Center, Atlantic Beach,
Fla.
Mrs. Strom was born September 20, 1923, in Minneapolis, Minn.,
a daughter of Donald and Ruth Lansing.
She attended the University of Minnesota and was a member of
Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. Mrs. Strom moved from Minnesota to Florida
in 1951.
She was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church in Ponte
Vedra Beach and was known for her pastel portraitures.
A memorial service was held at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at Christ
Episcopal Church.
Survivors include children, William C. Stout, Commerce, Lans
Stout, Atlantic Beach, Fla., and Julie Anderson, Neptune Beach,
Fla.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of North East Florida.

Cartey Electric Motor Services retiree
ATHENS - James Roy Casper, 71, a native of Barrow County, died
Sunday, June 17, 2001.
Mr. Casper had lived in the Athens-Clarke County area for most
of his life and was retired from Cartey Electric Motor Services.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Syble Casper Shelton, and
two brothers, Victor E. Casper and Robert F. Casper.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, in the
chapel of Bridges Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. Leon Pass
officiating. Burial was in Whitworth Cemetery. Melvin Cheek,
Travis Ingram, Marty Casper, Richard Gordon, Bobby Ramsey, Keith
Cartey, Jonathan Casper and Steven Casper served as pallbearers.
Members of The Dirty Dozen Hunting Club served as honorary pallbearers.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Sara Brown Casper; son,
Steven Casper, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Sam and
Kathy Casper, Nicholson; two step-grandsons, Steve Atkins, Memphis,
Tenn., and Travis Ingram, Nicholson; one step-great-granddaughter;
one step-great-grandson; one sister, Anne Finch, Athens; brothers
and sisters-in-law, William and Johnnie Casper, Danielsville,
and Gene and Patty Casper, Nicholson; sister-in-law, Diane Casper,
Bogart; and several nieces and nephews.

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. - Mrs. Mabel Sanders (Sandy) Newbury died
Monday, June 4, 2001, in Jacksonville, Fla., following a lengthy
illness.
Mrs. Newbury was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Newbury,
and a daughter, Kathleen Newbury.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, June
23, at St. Catherine Labouré Catholic Church, Commerce.
Survivors include one son, Michael Newbury, Commerce; two daughters,
Judith Shedd, Jacksonville, Fla., and Janet Daurity, Myrtle Beach,
S.C.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
