NOVEMBER 20, 2001 |
BOARD MEETING NOVEMBER 20, 2001 All Board Members were present as was Mr. Keith Cowne, Superintendent. Also in attendance was Allen McCannon, Mitch McGhee, Betsy Cheek, Elaine Rodgers and others. Mr. Patton made a motion to approve the November 20, 2001 Agenda with the addition of 7.6 under Superintendents Report: Nonpartisan Election. Mr. Mason seconded and the motion unanimously passed. Mr. Patton made a motion to approve the minutes of the Regular Meeting on October 16, 2001, and the Called Meetings of October 22, 2001 and November 7, 2001. Mr. Mason seconded and the motion unanimously passed. There were no questions or comments from Board Members on the October, 2001 Financial Report. There were no comments from the public. Mr. Cowne presented certificates of appreciation to Ms. Elaine Rodgers and Ms. Betsy Cheek, Teachers at Hull-Sanford Elementary, for serving on the Planning Committee for the State Department of Educations Teachers Conference in October, 2001. Policies EE, EEA, and IDDD were provided to Board Members for a thirty-day review before being presented for adoption at the December 18, 2001 Board Meeting. Copies of these policies will be available for review in the schools and in the Madison County Board of Education. Mr. Cowne presented the SY 2003 System Calendar for a 30-day review before being presented for approval at the December 18, 2001 Board Meeting. Mr. Jim Patton volunteered as Madison Countys liaison at the Georgia School Boards Association Legislative Meeting in Atlanta next month. Mr. Cowne and Mr. Haggard reported to all in attendance on a meeting concerning possible changes in the districts of the Board Members, presenting maps showing current districts and pointing out possibilities of redistricting. Mr. Cowne asked Board Members to have a decision made by the December 18, 2001 meeting as to whether or not any changes will be made. Mr. Cowne asked Board Members to consider taking the initiative to introduce to legislation the possibility of declaring Board Member elections as nonpartisan. Mr. Mason made a motion to approve Policies BHA, DFK, GCQ, IDB, JBA, JBC, JCD, JCDAE, JKB, and KEBB. Mr. Haggard seconded and the motion unanimously passed. Mr. Patton made a motion to approve the variance request of T.B. Ms. Belfield seconded and the motion unanimously passed. Ms. Belfield made a motion to approve the variance request of J.D. Mr. Patton seconded and the motion unanimously passed. Ms. Belfield made a motion to adopt a resolution naming Mr. Keith Cowne and Mr. Allen McCannon as administrators of the Madison CountySchool Systems Classified Employees Retirement Plan under Horace Mann Insurance Company. Mr. Mason seconded and the motion unanimously passed. Ms. Belfield made a motion to enter into Executive Session to consider personnel matters. Mr. Mason seconded and the motion unanimously passed. After discussion of personnel, Ms. Belfield made a motion to go out of Executive Session. Mr. Patton seconded and the motion unanimously passed. Mr. Mason made a motion to approve the following: - maternity leave for Angie Bolemon, Wendi Clanton, Susan Beach, Michele Barrett, and Amy Freitag - hiring of Melissa Mullis as Special Education Teacher at Madison County High School, replacing Ms. Audrey Norman - hiring of Amanda Avant as Teacher at Hull-Sanford Elementary, to replace Angie Bolemon effective January 3, 2002 Ms. Belfield seconded and the motion unanimously passed. Mr. Power made a motion to accept Gloria Whitens resignation as Assistant Principal of Danielsville Elementary School effective January 1, 2002. Mr. Mason seconded. Voting in favor were Mr. Power, Mr. Mason, Mr. Haggard and Mr. Patton. Ms. Belfield voted against. Mr. Mason made a motion to adjourn. Mr. Patton seconded and the motion unanimously passed. |
