Bernice D. Carr
Mrs. Bernice Doss Carr, 76, of Maysville, died Thursday, December 12, 2002, at her residence.
Mrs. Carr was a daughter of the late Embry and Flonie Black Doss. She was born September 3, 1926, in Jackson County.
Mrs. Carr was a homemaker and of the Baptist denomination. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Carr.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 14, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. James Dumas officiating. Burial was in Sunrise Cemetery, Maysville.
Survivors include one son, Jeff Carr, Maysville; one daughter, Henrietta Thrasher, Carlton; one brother, James Doss, Maysville; one sister, Mildred Jordan, Maysville; and six grandchildren.
Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Eva R. Griffin
Mrs. Eva Redmon Griffin, 85, of Maysville, died Wednesday, December 11, 2002, at her residence.
Mrs. Griffin was born May 1, 1917, in Banks County. She was a daughter of the late Joe and Mandy Baker Redmon.
Mrs. Griffin was retired from Blue Bell Manufacturing and was the oldest living member of Grove Level Baptist Church, Maysville. She was also a quilt maker.
Mrs. Griffin was preceded in death by her husband, Barnell Griffin, a son, Barney Griffin, and a daughter, Janie Griffin.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, December 13, at Grove Level Baptist Church with the Revs. Jeff Appling, David Bailey and Gerald Mitton officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include three sons, Billy Griffin, Jefferson, Bobby Griffin, Athens, and Jerry Griffin, Oakwood; three daughters, Wilma Abney, Kennesaw, Martha Cotton, Homer, and Joyce Griffin, Maysville; one sister, Pauline Nunn, Commerce; 19 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of arrangements.

Jewell P. Maney Jr.
Jewell Pruitt Maney Jr., 62, of Oxford, Ala., formerly of Cornelia, died Tuesday, December 10, 2002.
Mr. Maney was born September 3, 1940, in Habersham County. He was a graduate of North Habersham High School and earned his Associates Degree from the University of Georgia.
Mr. Maney was a U.S. Navy Vietnam Conflict veteran. He was an independent salesman and a member of Greenbriar Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, December 13, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, with Dr. Robert Culver officiating. Burial was in Yonah Memorial Gardens with the Rev. William Cox officiating at graveside.
Mr. Maney is survived by his wife, Joyce Richards Maney, Oxford, Ala.; his parents, Jewell Pruitt Sr. and Lucille Nix Maney, Alto; daughter and fiancé, Karin Maney and Gary Chumney, Jacksonville, Ala.; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Kelley Maney, Tampa, Fla.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue and Melvin King and Shirley and Jarrell Williams, all of Cornelia; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Leonard and Jeanette Maney, Bob and Vickie Maney and Larry and Jane Maney, all of Baldwin.
Memorials may be made to the Campus Crusade for Christ, 697 Highland Avenue, Cornelia, GA 30531.

Evagene F. Bennett
Mrs. Evagene Fulghum Bennett, 75, of Toccoa, died Saturday, December 14, 2002, at Stephens County Hospital.
Mrs. Bennett was born March 22, 1927, in Oconee County, S.C. She was a daughter of the late Miles A. and Gladys P. Fulghum.
Mrs. Bennett was a retired nurse’s assistant. She was also a homemaker and a member of New Hope Baptist Church. Mrs. Bennett was preceded in death by a son, William E. Bennett, two brothers, Ray and Howard Fulghum, and two sisters, Joyce F. Bennett and Elizabeth F. Wells.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, December 17, at New Hope Baptist Church with the Revs. David Sosbee and Tim Bennett officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Bennett is survived by her husband, W.J. “Dub” Bennett; two sons, Larry Bennett, Carnesville, and Greg Bennett, Toccoa; one daughter, Ernestine B. Cole, Marina, Calif.; two sisters, Ethelyn Peace and Edna Sue Sewell Elrod, both of Toccoa; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Ruth B. Hayes
Mrs. Ruth Bentley Hayes, 96, of the Red Hill Community, Carnesville, died Tuesday, December 10, 2002, at Stephens County Hospital.
Born February 6, 1906, in Franklin County, Mrs. Hayes was the daughter of the late James Thomas and Inez Hall Bentley.
She was a graduate of Piedmont College, and before retirement, had been a school teacher. Mrs. Hayes had been employed by the City of East Point and with the Georgia Power Company. She was a member of Broad River Baptist Church, Eastanollee.
Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by her first husband, Bob Pannell, her second husband, Boyce Hayes, a brother, Pope Bentley, and two sisters, Lois Vickery and Ruby Ivester.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, December 12, at Broad River Baptist Church with the Rev. Shannon Hayes officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include one brother, Paul Bentley, Carnesville; one step-daughter, Lillian Ellington, Snellville; one step-son, Boyce Hayes Jr., Florida; two step-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Broad River Baptist Church, 1050 Broad River Church Road, Eastanollee, GA 30538.

Carrie G. Zimmerman
Mrs. Carrie Gaddie Zimmerman, 100, of Cornelia, died Monday, December 16, 2002, at Habersham County Medical Center following an extended illness.
Born in Gwinnett County on January 7, 1902, Mrs. Zimmerman was the daughter of the late Henry and Mattie Dempsey Gaddie.
She was a homemaker and of the Baptist denomination. Mrs. Zimmerman was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Zimmerman, three daughters, Lois Zimmerman, Ruby Zimmerman and Irene Zimmerman, a son, John Zimmerman, and two brothers, H.L. Davis and Joe Watkins.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 19, in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, with the Rev. Billy Harris officiating. Burial will be in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include daughters, Ruth Moore, Toccoa, and Louise Grant, Montgomery, Ala.; daughters and sons-in-law, Lucille and J.D. Jones, Deatsville, Ala., and Annie Bell and Ralph York, Mt. Airy; seven grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 24 great-great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-great-grandchildren.
The family was to have received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the funeral home. The family is at the residence, 464 Woodfield Way, Cornelia.

Zelda
‘Claudette’ Wilson
Mrs. Zelda “Claudette” Wilson, 65, of Carnesville, died Tuesday, December 17, 2002, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Athens.
Mrs. Wilson was the daughter of the late Howard Q. Sheridan and the late Bessie Naomi Kimbrell Sheridan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Leatus Wilson, a son, Bobby Ray Wilson, and special friend, Clyde Jesse Reeves Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, December 20, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Dennis Kesler officiating. Burial will be in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include four sons, Greg Wilson and Jess Reeves, both of Carnesville, and Kenneth Wilson and Ronnie Wilson, both of Hull; two daughters, Becky Wilson Phillips, Athens, and Retha Wilson, Hull; two brothers, Gerald Sheridan, Texas, and Leon Sheridan, Athens; five sisters, Thelma Stockton, Panama City Beach, Fla., Sylvia Gale, Hull, and Rossly Shook, Earline Simmons and Carolyn McDonald, all of Commerce; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Ivie Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
