Seth G. Hines
Seth Galligher Hines, infant son of Charles Rainey and Mary Alliene Handy Hines, of Carlton, died Thursday, March 20, 2003.
Seth was a native of Clarke County.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 22, at Carlton Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Ivey officiating. Burial was in Carlton Cemetery.
In addition to his parents, Seth is survived by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hines, Carlton, Mary and Chuck Lazars, Visalia, Calif., and Grady and Patricia Handy, Irie, Colo.; and great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Neal R. Eades, Richland.

Martha Barnette
Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Carmichael Barnette, 91, of Comer, died Saturday, March 22, 2003.
A native of Madison County, Mrs. Barnette was a daughter of the late Stonewall Jackson and Elizabeth Eberhardt Carmichael.
She was a graduate of Georgia State Teachers College and of the University of Georgia. Mrs. Barnette was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and a charter member in Houston, Texas. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy, the First Families of Tennessee Historical Society, the Comer Women’s Club, the Madison County Retired Teachers Association and the Houston, Texas Retired Teachers Association.
Mrs. Barnette was a member of Comer First Baptist Church.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, in Comer Cemetery with the Rev. Stuart Lang officiating.
Mrs. Barnette is survived by her husband, Elrige Cornelious Barnette; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Rusknak, Bedford, Texas; a sister, Mary Caroline Norman, Cartersville; and two nieces.

Juanita A. Moore
‘Sister’
Miss Juanita Allene Moore, 46, of Poinciana, Fla., died Monday, March 17, 2003, at her residence following a brief illness.
Miss Moore was born November 25, 1956, in Jackson County, a daughter of the late Tom Ross and Asleen Matthews Moore.
She was a health care worker in Kissimmee, Fla.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, March 21, in the Antioch United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Miss Moore is survived by three sisters, Glenda Conwell, Greer, S.C., Betty Freeman, Nicholson, and Carol Walker, Panama City Beach, Fla.; and five brothers, David Moore, Danielsville, Doug Moore, Nicholson, and H.T. Moore, James Moore and Ronnie Moore, all of Athens.

William E. Carithers
William Eugene Carithers, 83, of Comer, died Saturday, March 22, 2003.
Born in Madison County, Mr. Carithers was a son of the late William Jonie and Sarah Elizabeth White Carithers.
He was a retired maintenance worker and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. Mr. Carithers was a lifelong member of Meadow Baptist Church and a member of Woodmen of the World Lodge #1415.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 24, at Meadow Baptist Church with the Revs. Mike Sarna and James Tolbert officiating. Burial was in Meadow Cemetery. Charles Booth, Hal Sorrow, Joe White, Junior Ralph Dixon, Ellis Rhoden and Allen Slaton served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class of Meadow Baptist Church.
Mr. Carithers is survived by one nephew, Bryant Carithers, Greenville, S.C.; and five nieces, Sara Wall, Comer, Coletta Chadwich, Mableton, Ruth Tenney, Woodstock, Sybil Waddell, Birmingham, Ala., and Betty Neelley, Cedartown.

Laura L. Smith
Mrs. Laura Lee Smith, 64, of Monroe, died Sunday, March 23, 2003.
Born in Madison, Wis., Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late Donald L. and Sarah D. Laird.
She had been employed with Circle K Stores in Winder and Campton and was of the Baptist denomination.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, in Smith Memory Chapel of Smith Funeral Home, Winder.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, James R. (Jimmy) Smith Jr.; sons, John E. Steele II, Leesburg, Fla., Michael A. Steele, Weirsdale, Fla., James G. Smith, Comer, and Donald L. Smith, Monroe; daughter, Sarah Gail Baker, Weirsdale, Fla.; brothers, Larry L. Laird, Clinton, Iowa, and Jack Laird, Denton, Texas; sister, Linda Brickson, Madison, Wis.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Shirley A. Jackson
Mrs. Shirley Ann Thornton Jackson, 58, of Athens, died Saturday, March 22, 2003.
A native of Madison County, Mrs. Jackson was a daughter of the late Lonnie and Eliza Mae Barnette Thornton, and was raised by Jewelline Johnson.
She was a member of Colbert Grove Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, at Colbert Grove Baptist Church, Colbert, with the Rev. Ronnie Gantt and pastors Patricia Saxon and Carolyn Hector officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Jackson is survived by her husband, Paul Jackson; daughter, Shelia Scott, Lafayette; sons, Walter Scott, Joe Willie Scott, Rodney Scott, Tony Wymbs and David Wymbs, all of Athens; step-daughters, Janice Murry, Atlanta, and Lelia Tory, Athens; step-son, Matthew Jackson, Eaton; sisters, Nancy Watkins, Carolyn Hector, Elouise Wymbs and Debby Mapp, all of Athens, Peggy Martin, Baltimore, Md., and Wanda Glenn, Gracie; brothers, Curtis Glenn and Jimmy Johnson, both of Athens, and Douglas Johnson, Crawford; and 15 grandchildren.

Furman C. Chandler
Furman C. Chandler, 89, of Colbert, died Monday, March 24, 2003.
A native of Jackson County, Mr. Chandler was a son of the late Harve and Lizzie Strickland Chandler.
He was a retired farmer and of the Baptist denomination. Mr. Chandler was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Fowler Chandler, a daughter, Betty Chandler, and a son, Melvin Chandler.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 27, in the chapel of Bridges Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. Tom Lang officiating. Burial will be in the Meadow Baptist Church Cemetery. Kenneth Chandler, Joshua Chandler, Jeff Ray, Ricky Bruce and Kevin Bruce will serve as pallbearers.
Survivors include a daughter, Etheleen Braswell, Old Town, Fla.; a son, Hubert Chandler, Danielsville; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The family was to have received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family is at the residence of Hubert Chandler.

Claude
‘Pete’ Latimore
Claude “Pete” Latimore, 55, of Lexington, died Sunday, March 23, 2003.
A native of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Latimore was a son of the late Hamp and Battie Jewell Latimore.
He worked for Athens Technical College and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 27, at Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Clarence Burgess officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Latimore is survived by his wife, Mary L. Latimore; one daughter, Lillie Latimore, Lexington; one son, Tracy Latimore, Lexington; five sisters, Evelene Cooper, Frazie Cooper and Mozell Cooper, all of Comer, Sarah Cooper, Athens, and Debra Bond, Crawford; three brothers, Clint Latimore and Billy Latimore, both of Crawford, and Jackie Latimore, Colbert; and two grandchildren.
The family is at the residence.

Louise Coile
Mrs. Mary Louise Stovall Coile, 69, of Comer, died Friday, March 21, 2003.
Mrs. Coile was born January 6, 1934, in Hart County, a daughter of the late H. Grady and Georgia Feltman Stovall.
She retired from the quality assurance department at Johnson and Johnson Baby Products Company after more than 30 years of service. After retirement, Mrs. Coile owned Lace-N-Thing in Royston. She was a member of David’s Home Pentecostal Holiness Church, Comer.
Mrs. Coile was preceded in death by a grandson, Jerry Kimmons, and a brother, Roy Stovall.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 23, at David’s Home Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Revs. Douglas Conwell, John McCoy and Ben Coleman officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Paul Kimmons, Kendall Stovall, Timothy Windom, Dale Brown, Keith Brown, Ronnie Stovall, Wayne Stovall, Elliot Seigler and Lester Stovall served as pallbearers.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Sally Coile, Comer; grandchildren, Clinton Coile, Cory Coile and Paul Kimmons; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Shirley Baynard, Danielsville, Mallie Brown, Hartwell, and Willie Windom, Newnan; and brothers, Edwin Stovall and Grady Stovall Jr., both of Hartwell, and Joe Stovall, Comer.

Jimmy
‘Charlie’ Edwards
Jimmy Charles “Charlie” Edwards, 40, of Colbert, died Monday, March 24, 2003.
Mr. Edwards was born in Clarke County, a son of Shirley Ana Tittle Edwards and the late Jimmy Edwards.
He was a painter.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 27, at New Covenant Worship Center with the Rev. Howard Conine officiating. The body will lie in state from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Mars Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Randy Tittle, Paul Coker, Wendell McCarty, Sonny Tittle, Virgil Hudson and Mike Tittle will serve as pallbearers.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include one daughter, Kayla Edwards, Colbert; two sons, David Benji Edwards, Rayle, and Robby Lee Gunter, Colbert; two sisters, Bobbie Jean East, Colbert, and Donna Sue Coker, Comer; and three brothers, Roger Dale Edwards and John Albert Edwards, both of Colbert, and David James Edwards, Hull.
The family was to have received friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville. The family is at the residence of David and Glenda Edwards, 503 Bedford Drive, Hull.

Mary C. Timms
Mrs. Mary C. Timms, 76, of Maysville, formerly of Gwinnett County, died Thursday, March 13, 2003.
Mrs. Timms was a native of Banks County. She was a homemaker and attended Welcome All Congregational Holiness Church, Norcross.
Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 15, at Bill Head Funeral Home, Duluth Chapel.
Mrs. Timms is survived by two sons, Troy Timms, Sugar Hill, and Johnny Timms, Maysville; four daughters, Pat Hart, Comer, Cathy Pines and Judy Sanders, both of Sugar Hill, and Sherry Evans, Pageland, S.C.; one brother, Calvin Crocker, Lula; two sisters, Nora Groover, Commerce, and Cara Mae Edison, Dacula; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
