MAYSVILLE - Mrs. Frances Helen Wiley, 53, died Wednesday, November
3, 1999, at her residence.
Mrs. Wiley was born August 26, 1946, in Carnesville. She was
a daughter of the late Ed and Mae Belle Cotton Brock.
Mrs. Wiley was a homemaker.
Funeral services were held Friday, November 5, in the chapel
of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Harvey Smith officiating.
Burial was in Sunrise Cemetery, Maysville.
Survivors include her husband, Jessie Sonny Wiley; one son, Doug
Wiley, Homer; one daughter, Eva Embrick, Maysville; two brothers,
Calvin Brock, Homer, and Winfred Brock, Maysville; three sisters,
Dorothy Ballenger, Commerce, and Lutrelle Parr and Ruby Roberts,
both of Maysville; and two grandchildren.

MRS. POOLE
Retired manager
COMMERCE - Mrs. Ida Mae Massey Poole, 81, a resident of BJC Nursing
Home, died Thursday, November 4, 1999, at BJC Medical Center,
Commerce.
A native of Banks County, Mrs. Poole was born August 13, 1918.
She was a daughter of the late Lon and Camilla Brown Massey.
Mrs. Poole was a retired manager of McConnell Five and Dime Store
and was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. She was preceded
in death by her husband, William Fletcher Poole.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 6, at Webbs Creek
Baptist Church with the Revs. Bob Hill and Ralph Smith officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Gene Poole, Griffin; two daughters,
Barbara Jones, Lula, and Carolyn Wilson, Commerce; two sisters,
Mary Evelyn Aycock and Ruth Cartey, both of Athens; seven grandchildren
and 13 great-grandchildren.

MR. CRANE
Former POW
MAYSVILLE - Sidney Boyd Crane, 76, died Sunday, November 7, 1999,
at his residence.
A native of Banks County, Mr. Crane was a son of the late George
and Dessie Morris Crane. He was retired from the trucking industry.
Mr. Crane was drafted in November 1943. After being inducted
at Fort McPherson, he spent seven months in Camp Shelby, Miss.,
then boarded a ship in New York, landing in Naples, Italy, entering
combat on the front line. Mr. Crane was captured in Germany while
in battle on the Rhine River and spent 14 days as a Prisoner
of War before escaping. He was sent to a field hospital and was
treated for frostbite and malnutrition, and after a month's time,
was sent back to the front line.
Mr. Crane's unit fought through France, Germany and Belgium and
were in Vienna, Austria, when they received word that the war
had ended.
Mr. Crane stayed on the front line during five major battles,
had been captured and escaped, earning two Silver Stars and two
Bronze Stars during his 2 1/2 years of duty.
Mr. Crane was preceded in death by a son, Philip Crane.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 9, at Grove Level
Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Cotton Crane; daughters and
sons-in-law, Joyce and James Cantrell, Gainesville, Nancy and
Larry Williams, Maysville, Cathy and Tony Dubnik, Talmo, and
Lisa and Danny Sims, Lula; one sister, Nell Cagle, Maysville;
eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

MRS. STEPHENS
Actress, pianist
COMMERCE - Mrs. Clara M. Stephens died Monday, November 1, 1999.
Mrs. Stephens was born May 3, 1925, in Witchatal Falls, Texas.
She was a resident of Banks County for 2 1/2 years.
Mrs. Stephens was a gifted actress of the Cabaret Theater, Atlanta,
as well as an accomplished pianist and artist and craft person.
Mrs. Stephens' cremated remains will be transported and interred
beside her husband, the late Marvin Stephens, in Alabama.
The National Cremation Society, Lilburn, was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. MILLER
Former Marine
Corps sergeant
LANDOVER, MD. - Mrs. Guynelle Cochran Miller, 66 died Tuesday,
October 26, 1999, at Joseph Richie Hospital, Baltimore, Md.,
of cancer.
Mrs. Miller was born in Banks County, a daughter of the late
Henly and Su Cochran.
She was a graduate of Commerce High School and served as a sergeant
in the Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Mrs. Miller was
awarded the Korean War Service Ribbon and the National Defense
Service Medal. Following her military service, she worked for
the federal government as a contract specialist. Mrs. Miller
was a member of the First Christian Church of Brock Hall, Upper
Marlboro, Md. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Merle
Cochran St. John, formerly of Erie, Pa., and Lucille Cochran
Farmer, formerly of Ohio.
Funeral services were held Thursday, October 28, at the First
Christian Church of Brock Hall. Burial was in Lakemont Memorial
Gardens.
Survivors include her husband, Wilbur Ray Miller, whom she married
in 1954; one son, Michael Ray Miller, Lothian, Md.; one daughter,
Deborah Lynn Rourke, Butler, Pa.: one sister, Maxine Smith, Commerce;
and four grandchildren.

MRS. ARCHER
Cornelia First Baptist Church member
CORNELIA - Mrs. Mildred Irene Archer, 85, died Thursday, November
4, 1999, at a private nursing facility following an extended
illness.
Mrs. Archer was born in Shawnee Town, Ill., but lived most of
her life in Habersham County. She was born November 2, 1914,
a daughter of the late Roy and Grace Ledbetter Tucker.
Mrs. Archer was a member of Cornelia First Baptist Church and
Arc Habersham. She was also a member of the Volunteer Sunday
School Class and the Round Table of the First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Archer was preceded in death by her husband, Olan Archer.
She was the oldest surviving member of her family.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 6, in the chapel
of McGahee-Griffin Funeral Home, Cornelia, with Dr. T. Logan
Smith officiating. Burial was in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include one daughter, Susan Archer, Cornelia; brother
and son-in-law, Pete and Kathleen C. Tucker, Atlanta; and a nephew,
Sam Tucker, Jamestown, N.C.

CORNELIA - Mrs. Arlene M. Roy, 64, died Saturday, November 6,
1999, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, following
an extended illness.
Mrs. Roy was born in Worcester, Mass., a daughter of the late
Armand and Mary Sanders Arsenault.
She was a homemaker a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church. Mrs.
Roy was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Roy.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 8, in the chapel
of McGahee-Griffin Funeral Home, Cornelia, with Dr. Tom Mewborn
officiating. Burial was in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester, Mass.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph A. Roy; daughters and sons-in-law,
Susan and Steven Mucci, Summerset, Ky., and Michelle and Eric
Bogusz, Amsterdam, N.Y.; sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and
Patricia Roy, Cornelia, and Joe and Karen Roy, Baldwin; son,

REV. GINN
Commerce native
SYLVA - The Rev. Charles P. Ginn, 82, died Tuesday, November
2, 1999, at his residence following an extended illness.
A native of Commerce, the Rev. Ginn had lived in Jackson County
for the past 66 years. He was a son of the late Hamilton Franklin
and Dovie Lou Adams Ginn.
The Rev. Ginn was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World
War II. He was a retired Baptist minister serving several churches
in western North Carolina for the past 45 years.
He was preceded in death by a son, Steve Ginn, four brothers
and three sisters.
Funeral services were held Thursday, November 4, at Sylva First
Baptist Church, of which he was a member. The Revs. Ed Beddingfield
and Dr. John Bunn officiated. Burial was in Keener Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Allen Ginn; two sons, Lloyd
Allen Ginn, Chicago, and Phil Ginn, Boone; one sister, Bessie
Maxwell, Commerce; and four grandchildren.

NICHOLSON - Charieynna J. Chandler, infant daughter of Jeffery
and Catherine Moore Chandler, Nicholson, died Saturday, November
6, 1999, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Infant Chandler was preceded in death by a grandfather, Douglas
Chandler, and a great-great-grandfather, James Sewell.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 9, at New Shiloh
Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Barnett officiating. Burial
was in the church cemetery.

WATKINSVILLE - Mrs. Cora M. Casper, 89, died Wednesday, November
3, 1999, at a local hospital.
A native of Union County, Mrs. Casper was born September 16,
1910. She was a daughter of the late Grayson and Dillia Holbrooks
Jackson.
Mrs. Casper had lived in the Athens area for most of her life
and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by a
daughter, Sybil Casper Skelton, and a son, Robert Casper.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 7, in the chapel
of Bridges Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. Larry Holmes officiating.
Burial was in the Chapel Christian Church cemetery. Mrs. Casper's
grandsons served as pallbearers.

Mr. Waddell
U.S. Army veteran
HULL - Van Leeman "Red" Waddell, 82, of Hull, died
Monday, November 1, 1999.
A native of Jackson County, Mr. Waddell was a son of the late
Marion Boyd and Lillie Jones Waddell.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II,
and was a retired auto mechanic. Mr. Waddell was a member of
Central Baptist Church, Athens.
He was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Boyd Waddell.
Funeral services were held Thursday, November 4, in the chapel
of Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Dennis Kesler
officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park. Paul J. Waddell,
John M. Barton, Cindy L. Barton, Jason Sartain, Matt Sartain
and Charles Fouche served as pallbearers.
Survivors include his wife, Volina Sue Kelley Waddell; two daughters,
Victoria Sartain, Hull, and Beatrice Fitzpatrick, Commerce; one
son, Paul Waddell, Hull; three sisters, Frances Griffeth, Watkinsville,
Annis Haggard, Winder, and Robbie Haggard, Commerce; one brother,

MRS. TANKSLEY
Habersham County native
JASPER - Mrs. Dolly Chastain Tanksley, 50, formerly of White
County, died Friday, November 5, 1999, at Piedmont Hospital,
Atlanta, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Tanksley was born July 4, 1949, in Habersham County. She
was a daughter of Cora Belle Poole Chastain, Gainesville, and
the late Elmer Chastain.
Mrs. Tanksley was employed as a heavy equipment operator with
Densmore Grading, Jasper, and was of the Baptist denomination.
She was preceded in death by a son, Royce Hill.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 8, in the chapel
of McGahee-Griffin Funeral Home, Cornelia, with the Rev. L.G.
Howard officiating. Burial was in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband, Doug
Tanksley; daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Randy Ellis, Norfolk,
Va., and Valerie and Phil Craver, Lula; step-daughter, Amy Tanksley,
Mt. Airy; step-son, Chad Tanksley, Mt. Airy; sisters and brothers-in-law,
