J. Waymon Barrett
J. Waymon Barrett, 61, of Danielsville, died Wednesday, December
1, 1999.
A native of Jackson County, Mr. Barrett was a son of Hubert J.
Barrett, Commerce, and the late Tabbie Hart Barrett.
He was self-employed as a heavy equipment operator.
Funeral services were held Friday, December 3, in the chapel
of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Madison Chapel, with the
Rev. Dennis Kesler officiating. Burial was in the New Haven Church
cemetery. Dale Nash, Travis Hooper, Blain Smith, David Williamson,
Eddie Freeman and James Argo served as pallbearers.
Survivors, in addition to his father, include one daughter, Kathy
Harper, Danielsville; three sons, Tommy Barrett, Mark Barrett
and Terry Barrett, all of Danielsville; one sister, Patricia
Cronic, Danielsville; one brother, Jerry Barrett, Danielsville;
and four grandchildren.
Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Madison Chapel, was in charge

Jessie P. Jones
Mrs. Jessie Pauline Jones, 91, of Hull, died Sunday, December
5, 1999.
Mrs. Jones was a daughter of the late James Wesley and Beulah
Chandler Holcomb.
She was a lifelong resident of Madison County and was retired
from the Georgia Center For Continuing Education. Mrs. Jones
was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where she taught
Sunday School and was the church pianist for several years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Thomas Jones,
a brother, Watson H. Holcomb, and a sister, Selena Lampkin.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 8, at Pleasant
Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Wood officiating. Burial
was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Gerald
Torbert, Greensboro; two sisters, Ruby H. Matthews, Hull, and
Margie H. Jones, Athens; one brother, James A. Holcomb; three
grandchildren, David Torbert and Kelly Torbert Hayes, both of
Greensboro, and Tammy Torbert Manley, Anniston, Ala.; and four
great-grandchildren.

Zigrid M. English
Mrs. Zigrid Maria English, 70, of Colbert, died Sunday, December
5, 1999.
Mrs. English was born in Riga, Latvia, the daughter of Helen
Sultkowskis Cederbaum and the late Herbert Cederbaum.
She was a homemaker and was a member of St. Mary's Hospital Auxillary.
Mrs. English was also a member of the VFW Auxillary Post 2872.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 7, at Colbert Baptist
Church with the Rev. Earl Dunmon officiating. Burial was in the
Colbert Cemetery. Rick Davis, Jamie Sproull, Kenny Sproull, Clint
Long, Doug Goodin and Chan English served as pallbearers.
In addition to her mother, Mrs. English is survived by her husband,
Samuel Anthony English.

Sarah K. Wilson
Mrs. Sarah Kathleen Wilson, 86, of Hull, died Tuesday, November
30, 1999.
A native of Madison County, Mrs. Wilson was a daughter of the
late Allie N. and Susie Belle Williams Spratlin.
Mrs. Wilson will long be remembered by those she taught so faithfully
for over 30 years in the 4 & 5 Year Old Sunday School Class
of Hull Baptist Church, where she was a member and served her
Lord so willingly, family members stated.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Hoyt Wilson,
a daughter, Shirley Ann Wilson Perry, a grandson, J. Kevin Wilson,
and a sister, Allena Spratlin Carithers.
Funeral services were held Thursday, December 2, at Hull Baptist
Church with the Rev. Randy Crowe officiating. Burial was in the
church cemetery.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law and granddaughter,
Altrin and Janice Wilson and Mandy, all of Watkinsville; daughter
and son-in-law and children, Carlene W. and Bobby Clements and
Carla C. and Marc Patterson, Cory, Tracy and J.R. Clements and
Christa, Lewis and Chase Burdette, all of Comer. The children
and grandchildren of her deceased daughter, Mike and Robin Perry;
Wilson, Ann Kennedy and Dottie Jeanne Perry, Alpharetta; Cindy
P. Nelms, Colbert; Shaun Nelms, Athens; Megan P., James and Nikki
McCart, Greensboro; and Susan P., Timmy and Trevor Evans, Milledgeville.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Hull Baptist
Church.

David Smith
David Smith, 82, of Commerce, died Friday, December 3, 1999,
at BJC Nursing Home, Commerce, following an extended illness.
Mr. Smith was born in Madison County, a son of the late Jordan
and Pearl Lee Smith.
He was a retired farmer and a member of Homer First Baptist Church.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
Funeral services were held Sunday, December 5, at Homer First
Baptist Church with the Rev. Fred Wilson officiating. Burial
was in the church cemetery. Mr. Smith's sons and grandsons served
as pallbearers, with granddaughters serving as flower ladies.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Gertrude Smith; daughters, Lucile
Smith, Nicholson, and Dottie Smith, Commerce; daughter and son-in-law,
Martha and William Borders, Commerce, sons and daughters-in-law,
Garnett and Clara Smith and Donnie and Katrina Smith, all of
Commerce, and A.D. and Eleanor Smith, Homer; sisters-in-law,
Mrs. Mary Kirkpatrick and Mrs. Lucile Hill; 13 grandchildren,
11 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Eula J. Fields
Mrs. Eula Jewrell Fields, 80, of Colbert, died Tuesday, November
30, 1999.
Mrs. Fields was born in Oglethorpe County, a daughter of the
late George Franklin and Amanda Coile Peterman.
She was a homemaker and a member of Colbert Baptist Church. Mrs.
Fields was preceded in death by her husband, William Troy Fields.
Graveside services were held Thursday, December 2, in Colbert
City Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Garrett officiating.
Survivors include two daughters, Jerrie Ann Edwards and Joyce
Bond, both of Danielsville; two sons, Jimmy E. Fields, Colbert,
and William B. Fields, Danielsville; one brother, Jack Peterman;
11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

James M. King
James M. King, of Bowman, died Monday, November 29, 1999, at
Elbert County Hospital, Elberton.
Mr. King was born December 19, 1940, in Madison County. He was
a son of Mrs. Nellie Sue Parham King, Royston, and the late Emerson
King.
Mr. King was employed with the Auto Zone Company in Lavonia,
and formerly worked with Oxford Manufacturing Company. He was
a member of Corinth Congregational Holiness Church.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 1, in the chapel
of Pruitte Funeral Home, Royston, with the Revs. Carl Herring
and Kenneth Vanderford officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Kevin Coile, Kenneth King, Tommy Eller, Arnold Dove, Lamar Brown
and Mason Price served as pallbearers.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Linda
Barton King; one son, Greg A. King, Bowman; one daughter, Regina
King Rice, Elberton; one brother, Jackie King, Danielsville;
and grandchildren, Joshua and Janna King, Kayla Rice and Justin
Bryant.

David A. Drake Jr.
David A. Drake Jr., 27, of Nicholson, died Wednesday, December
1, 1999.
Mr. Drake was born in Elandville, N.Y., a son of Virginia Artist
Drake and the late David Abit Drake Sr.
He was employed with Triple D Welding and was of the Holiness
denomination.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 4, at Macedonia
Independent Holiness Church with the Rev. Artis Anglin officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery. Tim Porterfield, Johnny Luthi,
Pat Cromer, Preston Farmer, Kelly Farmer and Jonathan Towe served
as pallbearers.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Debra
Yvonne Strickland Drake; six sisters, Sherie Cromer, Hull, Pamela
Towe, Lexington, Ginny Porterfield, Danielsville, Alice Drake,
Carnesville, Kristi Bell, Canon, and Elizabeth Luthi, Nicholson;
and several nieces and nephews.

Florence H. Minish
Mrs. Florence Hix Minish, 96, of Commerce, died Monday, December
6, 1999, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Mrs. Minish was born January 19, 1903, in Madison County. She
was a daughter of the late Luther and Pearl Bolton Hix.
Mrs. Minish was the former owner of City Appliance and Furniture
Store. She was a member of Erastus Christian Church, Commerce,
where she was the oldest member. Mrs. Minish was preceded in
death by her husband, Walter N. Minish.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 8, at Erastus
Christian Church with the Revs. Jim Lugo and Billy Glosson officiating.
Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include one son, Dr. J. Albert Minish, Commerce; one
daughter, Hazel Benton, Commerce; two sisters, Azerlee Millican
and Wilma Williamson, both of Commerce; five grandchildren, seven
great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
