Dorothy E. Bacle
Mrs. Dorothy Elizabeth Thaxton Bacle, 79, of Commerce, died Wednesday,
December 15, 1999, at her residence.
Mrs. Bacle was born September 10, 1920, in Greenville County,
S.C. She was a daughter of the late Ben and Gladys King Thaxton.
Mrs. Bacle was retired from Sears and was a member of Ridgeway
Baptist Church, Commerce. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Mathews Bacle.
Funeral services were held Friday, December 17, at Ridgeway Baptist
Church with the Rev. Bill Manus officiating. Burial was in the
church cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Bob Bacle, Commerce; one daughter,
Gail Bacle, Hull; one brother, Hoyt Thaxton, Fountain Inn, S.C.;
one sister, Annie Etta Imbastaro, Greenville, S.C.; three grandchildren
and one great-grandchild.

Edna R. Johnson
Mrs. Edna Ruth Parker Johnson, 83, of Nicholson, died Friday,
December 17, 1999, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Johnson was born August 28, 1916, in Buncombe County, N.C.
She was a daughter of the late Leonard Clifton and Edna Morgan
Parker.
Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker and a member of Center United Methodist
Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Ponder
Johnson Jr.
Funeral services were held Sunday, December 19, at Center United
Methodist Church with the Revs. Howard Conine and Richard Cathy
officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, Clifton Johnson, Delaware, and John
Johnson, Atlanta; one daughter, Barbara Farmer, Nicholson; one
sister, Hilda Swimm, Asheville, N.C.; and a number of grandchildren.

Laura B. Evans
Mrs. Laura Belle Evans, 88, of Commerce, died Tuesday, December
14, 1999, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Evans was born July 28, 1911, in Commerce. She was a daughter
of the late Ed and Alice Bailey Payne.
Mrs. Evans was retired from Blue Bell Manufacturing in Commerce,
with 50 years of service. She was a member of Commerce First
Baptist Church.
Mrs. Evans was preceded in death by her husband, B.T. Evans,
and a son, Deputy Edward Monroe "Eddie Row" Evans.
Funeral services were held Thursday, December 16, at Commerce
First Baptist Church with the Rev. Kent Cranford officiating.
Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Survivors include one sister, Julia Griffin, Commerce; daughter-in-law,
Frances Evans Forston, Commerce; two grandchildren, Phyllis Kay
Brewer, Nicholson, and Edward Charleston Evans, Commerce; two
great-granddaughters, Melissa Brewer, Commerce, and Amanda Brewer,
Nicholson; two great-grandsons, Casey Evans and Chuck Evans;
and three great-great-grandchildren.

Joann McDuffie
Mrs. Joann McDuffie, 56, of Maysville, died Friday, December
17, 1999, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce, following injuries
sustained in an automobile accident.
A native of Commerce, Mrs. McDuffie was born July 6, 1943. She
was a daughter of Kate McCoy, Commerce, and the late Jimmy McCoy.
Funeral services were held Sunday, December 19, at Ridgeway Baptist
Church, Commerce, with the Rev. Bill Manus officiating. Burial
was in the church cemetery.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband, Leon
McDuffie; one son, Chad McDuffie, Commerce; two daughters, Kim
Laalk, Watkinsville, and Wendy Thomas, Commerce; two brothers,
Randy McCoy, Marietta, and Tim McCoy, Homer; one sister, Marie
Evans, Commerce; and six grandchildren.

Stephanie D. Lawson
Mrs. Stephanie Denise Lawson, 38, of Commerce, died Sunday, December
19, 1999, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Mrs. Lawson was born June 12, 1961, in Commerce. She was a daughter
of the late Guy and Mary Lou Doss Napier.
Mrs. Lawson was a housewife and was a member of Oconee Baptist
Church.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 20, at Oconee Baptist
Church with the Rev. Kenneth Barrett officiating. Burial was
in the church cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Phillip Lawson; two sons, Blake
Gooch and Justin Gooch, both of Jefferson; and one brother, George
Mathis, Maysville.

Sarah M. Rogers
Mrs. Sarah Mason Rogers, 78, of Commerce, died Monday, December
20, 1999, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Mrs. Rogers was born June 13, 1921, in Banks County. She was
a daughter of the late Clate and Ruth Sims Mason.
Mrs. Rogers was a homemaker and was a member of Lyons Baptist
Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, David A. Rogers
Sr.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 22, in the chapel
of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Bill Manus
officiating. Burial was in Banks Memorial Gardens, Homer.
Survivors include two sons, Daniel Wayne Rogers, Gainesville,
and David A. Rogers Jr., Douglasville; two brothers, Gerald Mason,
Marietta, and Walter Mason, Griffin; three sisters, Blanche Fuller,
Powder Springs, Evelyn Lewallen, Atlanta, and Lois Whitfield,
Cornelia; and five grandchildren.

Dillard Howell
Dillard Howell, 58, of Commerce, died Thursday, December 16,
1999, at Athens Regional Medical Center, Athens.
Mr. Howell was born April 7, 1941, in Commerce. He was a son
of Edward Howell, Commerce, and the late Lillie Mae Loggins Howell.
Mr. Howell was self-employed as a house painter.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 18, in the chapel
of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Jerry Smith officiating.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Howell; one daughter, Mandy O'Kelley,
Commerce; five brothers, Bobby Howell, Athens, Buford Howell,
Snellville; Eddie Howell and Waymon Howell, both of Commerce,
and Freddie Howell, Comer; four sisters, Barbara Coker and Betty
Floyd, both of Gainesville, Geneva Floyd, Hartwell, and Jeanette
Roberts, Comer; and one grandchild.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the charity
of one's choice.

Eugene Jackson
Eugene Jackson, 59, of Gainesville, died Thursday, December 16,
1999.
Mr. Jackson was born October 26, 1940, in Jackson County. He
was a son of the late William Fred and Ella Ivie Jackson.
Mr. Jackson worked as a landscaper.
Memorial services were held Saturday, December 18, in the chapel
of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Bill Manus
officiating.
Survivors include one brother, Hoyt Jackson, Homer; and five
