Former Commerce fire chief Johnny Eubanks will be sworn in as the new Ward 5 councilman on Monday, April 12.
Eubanks beat Steve Ayers 90-44 in the special election Tuesday to fill the unexpired term of the late Richard Massey.
A total of 135 votes were cast, according to city clerk Shirley Willis — amounting to a voter turnout of 21 percent.
One ballot was voided because the voter had written in a name of a deceased Commerce resident.
Eubanks will serve as the Ward 5 councilman through Dec. 31, 2011.
