Two Commerce businesses detected, and confiscated, counterfeit bills last week, according to the Commerce Police Department.
In the first case, a clerk at Autozone told police that Thursday a slender black male with a big black coat attempted to purchase a bottle of fuel cleaner with a fake $50 bill.
The clerk told the man he would call police to take a report, at which time the suspect ran out of the store toward Hardeeās, got into a Buick Regal and left the scene.
The other bill showed up at Fuel Mart, where a Commerce couple attempted to purchase gasoline with what turned out to be a $20 bill.
The 21-year-old white female and 24-year-old white male were unaware that the bill was bad and could not remember where they got it, according to the report.
