Despite wet weather delays, the Jefferson Dragons added another win to their tally with a victory over Walnut Grove Tuesday.
Next up for Jefferson is a Friday double header on the road, as the Dragons will face Union County in back-to-back games.
The Panthers enter play this week with a 4-2 overall record, but 0-1 in the region after falling to Dawson County last week in their region opener.
First pitch in game one is slated for 5 p.m., with the second game to follow.
Walnut Grove
Much like everyone else, last week’s wet weather affected the Jefferson Dragons’ schedule, as their March 12 game against North Oconee was postponed.
The region pairing will now be played on April 9, the day after the Dragons face off against Banks County.
That meant the next time the Dragons hit the field would be on the road at Walnut Grove on Tuesday.
The Dragons took control early, putting three runners across in the top of the first to move out to a 3-0 lead. Jefferson would add an additional run in the third, while holding Walnut Grove scoreless to make it 4-0.
The Warriors got their first run on the board in the bottom of the fourth, but were answered by three runs in the top of the fifth and another three in the top of the sixth by the Dragons, all while being held
scoreless through both innings.
The Warriors tried to mount a late charge, putting two across in the bottom of the seventh, but it was too little, too late as Jefferson recorded their fifth straight victory, 6-1.
Jake Fields recorded the win, giving up four hits and one run while striking out five in six innings of play.
Kyle Hardy went 2-4 at the plate with three RBIs and one home run. Fields went 2-2 with two hits and two RBI, including a home run. Lucas Redd went 2-4 with one RBI. Jason Demos went 2-4.
