Before the rain moved in last week, the Commerce Tiger golf team managed to get one round on the links as the boys played Oglethorpe at Jennings Mill.
The Patriots beat Commerce by 11 strokes, 177-188. Oglethorpe did not have a girls’ team, so the Lady Tigers’ match was canceled.
Commerce’s March 11 round with Hebron was rained out and a makeup date has not been scheduled.
The Tigers were set to play Prince Avenue at Double Oaks on Tuesday, but results were unavailable at press time.
Coming up for the golfers will be a home match at Double Oaks as Commerce hosts Athens Christian Thursday.
Despite the loss at Jennings Mill, the Tigers posted decent scores as Casey Drinkard led the boys with the team’s lowest score of 39.
“Casey played really well,” said coach David Stephenson. “I am well satisfied with a 39 this early in the season.”
Drinkard was one under par after eight holes, but a quadruple bogey on the ninth green pushed his score to 39.
“My goal this early in the season is 180 so we came fairly close,” Stephenson said. “We really have not had much practice time because of the weather. I expect our scores to improve as it warms up and we play a few more matches.”
Following Drinkard, Sam Purcell posted 45 with Colton Dean ending with 47. Austin Patterson shot a 56, while Jake Turpin carded a 59, finishing a stroke ahead of Jonathan Book at 60.
