MCHS moves to 4-0 in 8-AAAA North action
The Madison County boys’ tennis team nabbed another victory in its bid to repeat as Region 8-AAAA North subregion champions.
The Red Raiders beat Winder-Barrow 4-1 Tuesday on the road to move to 4-0 in divisional action.
Madison County got wins at no. 1 and no. 3 singles and swept doubles play to move to 6-1 overall.
Top singles player Trey Morris, who has lost only one match this year, dropped just one game in a dominant victory over his Winder-Barrow opponent, winning 6-0, 6-1.
“Trey Morris continues to take it to his opponents,” coach Keith Strickland said of the freshman.
Blaise Boleman won 7-5, 6-4 at no. 3 singles while Jake Scarborough and Chris Dove prevailed at no. 1 doubles 6-0, 7-6 and Connor Hancock and Josh Dooley won 6-0, 6-2 at no. 2 doubles.
“We always stress the importance of the doubles positions’ value to a team win,” Strickland said.
Heading into Wednesday’s match with Clarke Central (results weren’t available at press time), the Red Raiders had won four straight matches since losing to Morgan County March 3.
Looking ahead, the Red Raiders have home matches against Cedar Shoals today (Thursday) and Apalachee Friday. Madison County then hits the road Tuesday for a non-region matchup with North Oconee.
Madison County has five subregion matches remaining before the Region 8-AAAA tournament, which starts April 15.
