A man who drove in an emergency lane just to tell Braselton officers that they “need to learn how to drive” was later arrested by police.
One of the officers said he arrived on the scene of an accident on I-85, when the man approached him and another officer. The man wanted to know who was driving one of the patrol vehicles.
The man said the officers “need to learn how to drive” and they were “out of control” and going to hurt someone, according to an incident report. He added that the officers were “nothing but a couple of loose cannons.”
One of the officers continued investigating the wreck, while the other talked to the man. When one of the lanes on the interstate was re-opened for traffic, one of the officers noticed that the man’s vehicle had a broken headlight.
The officer asked the man for his driver’s license, but he reluctantly complied.
While writing a traffic citation for the broken headlight, the man said he drove in the emergency lane to complain to police about their driving abilities.
The officer then wrote an additional citation saying the man “drove down the emergency lane to complain on police officers driving to accident scene.”
The man disagreed with the statement and tried to scratch out what the officer had written on the citation. The officer took a pen from the man said if he made any other mark on the citation besides his signature, he’d arrest him on disorderly conduct.
The man said he wouldn’t sign the citation and the officer said he would be arrested for refusing to sign it. The man then said he’d sign the citation, but he tried again to scratch out the statement.
The officer tried to handcuff the man, who then agreed to sign the citation while being arrested. The officer said he had been warned to sign the document.
Police charged Douglas Raymond Bugee, 62, Roswell, with disorderly conduct, driving in the emergency lane for a non-emergency and failure to meet headlight requirements.
