The Commerce Lady Tigers find themselves looking to snap a six-game losing streak after dropping games to Prince Avenue and Social Circle last week.
Their first chance is a make-up game at Athens Christian Thursday at 4:45 from a rainout on Aug. 17.
The Lady Eagles enter the week in a skid of their own, having lost last week to Social Circle. Athens Christian is also in search of its first win of 2010.
“I think they’re struggling like us, in some ways,” said coach Pam Canup. “It should be a very good game. It’s always a good game against them.”
In their last 11 meetings dating back to September 2005, Commerce has swept the Lady Eagles, with the exception of a 14-13 win by Athens Christian in 2006.
Following Thursday’s game, the Lady Tigers will travel to Social Circle Friday for the Redskins Tournament. Commerce will open tournament play against George Walton on Friday and face Monticello on Saturday.
On Tuesday, Aug. 31, the Lady Tigers hosted the Lady Wolverines of Prince Avenue Christian, who entered the week 10-1 overall and 3-0 in the region. They bettered those numbers in Commerce, defeating the Lady Tigers 7-0.
“We did do some things well, they are well deserving of their number-two ranking,” Canup said.
Beth Pritchett recorded the loss from the mound.
Juniors Kayla Burks and Jessika Kyle and senior Haiden Nunn each recorded a hit against Prince Avenue.
“We did get some hits,” Canup added “We were pleased with that.”
Up next was a trip to Social Circle where the Lady Redskins won 7-0.
Kayla Burks recorded the loss on the mound. Canup said several younger players, including sophomore Rachel Andrews got some valuable playing time in the process.
