The lack of available sewer, and questions about who should pay for it, is holding up planning for a new middle school in Barrow County. Barrow County assistant superintendent for facilities, Jake Grant, said the main holdup on the project is the installation of county sewer. Fire destroys vacant house

A vacant house in Statham was destroyed by fire on Friday morning, according to the Barrow County Fire and Emergency Services. Barrow County firefighters responded to two wood fires on Thursday. The first was located on Thurmond Circle, near Ga. Hwy. 82 and the Barrow-Jackson county line. The assistant district attorney pulled into a scheme to take money from Banks County pled guilty Tuesday to misdemeanor charges of being party to a crime.
