The Barrow County Department of Fire and Emergency Services recently conducted its first lieutenant promotional testing process under Chief Robert Post. After all stages of the testing were completed, an eligibility list was established with firefighter/EMT Blair Darst placing first on that list. Darst was promoted to lieutenant on June 28. ... BY KRISTI REED The Barrow County Airport Authority has received ground disturbance permits for the Instrument Landing System (ILS) and hangar projects. Barrow County man arrested for murder

A Barrow County man was arrested in Panama City last week for the rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl. Matthew Caylor, a registered sex offender from Auburn, admitted killing Melinda Hinson in his hotel room. According to the probable cause affidavit, Caylor raped Hinson Tuesday evening. Burglary reported at Owens Circle home

Burglars took cash, checks and jewelry from an Owens Circle, Bethlehem, resident earlier this month, according to an incident report filed at the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office. Population rises for Barrow’s smallest cities

Barrow County’s smallest cities experienced the largest percentage growth in population, according to the Census Bureau. Population estimates released by the Census Bureau last week show that Carl and Bethlehem each grew more than six percent from July 1, 2006, to July 1, 2007.
