A Braselton officer said a passenger rode on the outside of a vehicle, while traveling down Thompson Mill Road last week. Hoschton police arrested a Dacula woman last week, after Winder police said she had a warrant for failure to appear for traffic citations. Hoschton police said Zorina Leonard, 29, 995 Superior Drive, Dacula, was driving 61 m.p.h. in a 35 m.p.h. zone. Jackson County to start CERT on July 17

The Jackson County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will hold its first class, starting Thursday, July 17, at 7 p.m., at the West Jackson Fire Department. The eight-week class will cover topics in first aid, CPR, search and rescue, and traffic control. The final class will be held on Sept. 18, and a drill is set for Saturday, Sept. 20. ... A two-story house in West Jackson was sparred a close hit by lighting, according to firefighters. The West Jackson Fire Department was told a house on Freedom Parkway, Hoschton, was possibly hit by lighting on Saturday. The Mill Creek High School Tipoff Club will be hosting its fifth annual invitational golf tournament on Friday, August 8. The tournament will be played at the Chateau Elan Chateau course.
