Smith wins District Attorney contest

Brad Smith will be the new District Attorney of the Piedmont Judicial Circuit. Although Donna Sikes carried Banks County, Smith took Jackson and Barrow counties to win the post. In Banks County, the results were: Donna Sikes 637, Brad Smith 490 For more details, see this week's Banks County News.

BOC budget up 6 percent

Two budget hearings were held on the $14.5 million county budget last week but there was little citizen input. A Banks County High School junior died as a result of injuries suffered in a one-vehicle accident on Hwy. 441 Saturday evening, just north of the county sheriff’s office.
