It was a good showing last week for the Jackson County Panthers cross country team at the MainStreet Invitational, held at East Jackson, as both teams placed third overall. The trip to state for the Jefferson Lady Dragons volleyball team was a short one, as they lost out early on to Wesleyan 0-3. “We were excited to be there and accomplished one of our team goals by doing so,” said coach Michael Paul. Copper thieves do $50,000 in damage

Copper thieves made off with a quantity of copper and did an estimated $50,000 in damage to a Commerce building last week. According to the Commerce Police Depart-ment, someone entered Tencate, located on Mount Olive Road, and used a forklift to pull copper wiring from the internal electrical box. A proposed rezoning for light industrial businesses on Hwy. 124 in Barrow County was denied by the Braselton Planning Commission Monday night.
