Wildcats return home Friday

Despite last week’s disappointing loss to Heritage, the playoffs remain a strong possibility for the Apalachee High School Wildcats. Coach Shane Davis’ team is now 5-3 overall and will host Madison County in an important Region 8-AAAA contest this week. Lack of sewer holding up new Barrow middle school

With no county sewer line in the works, a proposed new middle school in Barrow County remains on hold. The Barrow County Board of Education continued to discuss the project at its meeting Tuesday night, but took no action. Winder man killed Tuesday in motorcycle crash

A 41-year-old Winder man was killed Tuesday afternoon in a motorcycle accident around 2 p.m. on Georgia Highway 8 (Atlanta Highway) near the Bankhead Highway crossing, according to a report from the Athens post of the Georgia State Patrol. Murderer loses appeal

A convicted murderer from Jackson County has lost an appeal to the State Supreme Court. Charles Randolph Thomas’ appeal argued that statements made by the victim to several people shortly after she was shot, which implicated him, should not have been admitted into evidence at his trial.
