Fire destroys house in South Jackson

A fire whipped by gusty winds destroyed a large two-story home on Jefferson River Road Tuesday. Several Jackson County fire departments responded to the blaze, which happened about midday. The fire happened at 8825 Jefferson River Road in South Jackson. The house was listed for sale in September and was reportedly built in 1976.

A man said he pulled over on Crooked Creek Road at Hwy. 129 last week when he was having car trouble and someone assaulted him. The man said he had the hood up and was looking at the motor when someone hit him from behind, according to an incident report filed with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. Jefferson hikes water, sewer rates

In a 4-1 vote, the Jefferson City Council agreed Monday night to increase the water and sewer rates. Councilman Bosie Griffith voted against the action while C.D. Police: Homeless men used to cash fake checks

Three homeless men were charged with forgery, after they said two other men drove them from Atlanta to Braselton to cash fake checks at a bank. Inmate commits suicide

An inmate at the Jackson County Jail hung himself in his cell Wednesday night. The man was arrested by the Arcade Police Department on Wednesday Nov 12 and charged with open container violation, public drunk and theft by taking.
