County commissioners took action Monday to make sure the county government gets its money back if an employee steals county funds. The BOC approved a bonding arrangement for county employees that handle county money. The cost is $1,400 for the year and will insure the county for up to $100,000 per theft incident. Colbert woman assaults boyfriend after Hooters visit

A Colbert woman was arrested last week during an argument with her boyfriend because he reportedly ate at a Hooters Restaurant. Hope Melissa Abercrombie, 37, 45 Brush Creek Road, was charged with one count each of simple assault, battery and cruelty to children. Chambers sentenced to two years in jail

Cana Chambers will spend two years behind bars for stealing from the Madison County Probate Office. The former probate office clerk was sentenced to two years confinement and eight years probation for stealing over $33,000 from the judge’s office. She will also have to repay the money she took. Assessors pass unpopular digest by slim margin

The Madison County Board of Assessors (BOA) passed the county tax digest narrowly and reluctantly Thursday following months of discussion.
