Commerce Drops Season Opener Against Apalachee

The Commerce High School Tigers and Lady Tigers have a few days of practice as the Thanksgiving holidays provide a short break between games. The Banks County High School Lady Leopards started the basketball season with their first game last Thursday evening. The Banks County High School’s Leopard basketball team has started strong. The Leopards competed in a scrimmage game against Towns County on Nov. 18, where the Leopards took an 82-53 win. Fire destroys house in South Jackson

A fire whipped by gusty winds destroyed a large two-story home on Jefferson River Road Tuesday. Several Jackson County fire departments responded to the blaze, which happened about midday. The fire happened at 8825 Jefferson River Road in South Jackson. The house was listed for sale in September and was reportedly built in 1976.

BOC approves bonding arrangement

County commissioners took action Monday to make sure the county government gets its money back if an employee steals county funds. The BOC approved a bonding arrangement for county employees that handle county money. The cost is $1,400 for the year and will insure the county for up to $100,000 per theft incident.
