Chambers sentenced to two years in jail

Cana Chambers will spend two years behind bars for stealing from the Madison County Probate Office. The former probate office clerk was sentenced to two years confinement and eight years probation for stealing over $33,000 from the judge’s office. She will also have to repay the money she took. Assessors pass unpopular digest by slim margin

The Madison County Board of Assessors (BOA) passed the county tax digest narrowly and reluctantly Thursday following months of discussion. A dive team from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday morning searched a pond behind the Auburn apartment complex where a man and a woman were shot Nov. 15 while sleeping. A man said he pulled over on Crooked Creek Road at Hwy. 129 last week when he was having car trouble and someone assaulted him. Fire destroys house in West Jackson

Fire consumed a house on Doster Crest Drive, Jefferson, on Saturday. Flames were seen coming from the house’s attic and bonus room. A report of the cause of the fire was not available. The house is located in the Clover Mill subdivision, located off Ga. Hwy. 124.

Sign variance OK’d for Braselton hotel

The Braselton Zoning Board approved a variance in a 10-minute meeting Thursday night that will allow a sign to locate at a hotel along I-85.
