A New Jersey man was arrested by Banks County Sheriff’s Office deputies around 1 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, following a disturbance at the RaceTrac station on Highway 441. After opposition from some county residents and concern from some board of education members, a millage rate hike was approved for the Banks County School System. A man was run over by a train around 9:30 p.m. Monday night in Alto in the area of Garland White Road near Lee Arrendale State Prison. Several citizens attended a public hearing of the Banks County Board of Education last week to speak in opposition to a proposed millage rate increase. Superior Court judge David Motes is home after undergoing surgery Thursday at an Athens hospital, while judge Joe Booth remains in the intensive care unit at the hospital.
