Fatality reported in county Tues. night

One man was killed in a wreck Tuesday night on I-85, according to reports from the Georgia State Patrol. The wreck occurred around around 8 p.m. near milemarker 133 at the Hwy. 332 overpass. One man was reportedly dead at the scene after being ejected. Further details are not available at this time.

The Jackson County Parks and Recreation Department will host the Dizzy Dean World Series. The department will host the 11-year-old Baseball World Series July 16-21 at the Lamar Murphy Park in Jefferson. Seven underage drinkers arrested at vacant house party

Auburn police responding to a noise complaint at a vacant house in Auburn’s Elk Grove subdivision early Sunday interrupted a party with underage drinkers. Hagemeyer center closing equates to 100 lost jobs

Hagemeyer Distribution Center in Auburn near Hwy. 316 is closing and laying off 100 employees. The firm filed its notice of closure with the Georgia Department of Labor in October. Barrow foreclosures continue to climb

Foreclosures in Barrow County have jumped the last five months of 2008 by 80 percent over the same period last year. Barrow foreclosures topped 654 for the period Aug.-Dec., a huge climb from 363 in 2007 for the same five-month period. County occupation tax on tap in 2009

All businesses in unincorporated areas (outside of city limits) in Madison County will be required to pay an occupation tax in 2009. GSP investigates 14 wrecks in county

The Athens Post 32 of the Georgia State Patrol reportedly investigated 14 traffic crashes in Madison County during the month of November. The crashes resulted in 15 injuries and no deaths, according to the press release.
