Winder police from Feb. 16-23 arrested 23 people – nine of them for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Wreck at school sends several to hospital; three die in wrecks this week

A three-vehicle wreck Wednesday morning at approximately 11:30 a.m. near Yargo Elementary School sent several people to area hospitals. County collects nearly $200,000 in back taxes since last week

Delinquent taxpayers have begun responding to the 4,700 tax-lien notices they received from Barrow County’s tax commissioner last Friday. For the second time in three days, a single-car wreck has claimed the life of a local resident. Twenty-two-year-old James Justin Davis of Winder died today at the scene of an early-morning wreck on Carl-Cedar Hill Road near Pierce Road. Sheriff’s deputies believe he was not wearing a seatbelt. A Statham man was killed early Sunday in a single-car wreck on Hwy. 82 near the Barrow-Jackson county line. The driver, Michael Bernard Smith, 37, of Statham, was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital but died of his injuries, according to a Barrow County Sheriff’s Office press release.
