BCHS grapplers place three at state, tie for 12th

Banks County’s Mat Leopards ended a strong season at the state tournament on Saturday, in a tie for 12th place with East Jackson. Banks had a third place finish from Tramane Mayfield at 285 pounds, a fourth place finish from Matthew Patton at 215 pounds and fifth-place finisher Demetric Dempson at 171 pounds. The post season was a brief experience for Banks County as the Leopards were bumped out by Dawson County, 58-47. Dawson took the 11-point win over Banks to remove the Leopards from the region tournament last Wednesday, ending Banks’ season 14-12 overall and 6-7 in region competition. “I am proud of this team,” said coach Mike Ruth. Commerce High School’s mat Tigers placed six wrestlers inside the top four at the state tournament and placed fourth as a team. Commerce finished fourth with 83 points.
