A Commerce woman was driving on Hwy. 98 at Steve Reynolds Blvd. last week when she was the victim of an armed robbery. The woman, who was upset and crying when officers were called to the scene, said a dark colored car “shaped like a Crown Victoria” stopped in front of her. Some 188 pieces of property in Jackson County are being issued fi fa notices this week to collect back taxes, or the property will be sold by the county on June 2. '66 addition torn off old courthouse

The 1966 addition to the Jackson County Historic Courthouse was torn down Monday afternoon as work began on restoring the building. The addition had been built for office space, but it never fit the character of the courthouse. For the complete story, see the May 6 issue of The Jackson Herald.

Sales taxes down 36% in February

Jackson County sales tax revenues dropped by over a third in February from the year before. For the month, the county netted only $305,400 in local option sales taxes, down 36 percent — $169,600 — from February 2008. It was the lowest monthly amount in five years in Jackson County.
