Two homes were declared total losses in fires last week in Jackson County. On Friday, July 10, a fire was reported at 889 Swain Road, Commerce. Fire personnel from Nicholson, Commerce, the Jackson County Correctional Institute, Harrisburg and Maysville responded to the fire. All schools in Jackson County made Adequate Yearly Progress this year except for Jackson County Comprehensive High School. The AYP results, released Tuesday, cover all three school systems and schools in Jackson County. JCCHS did not make AYP due to having the county Regional Evening School data included in its numbers. A residential fire was reported Tuesday morning at 456 Y.Z. Sailors Road in Jefferson. Units from Harrisburg, Jefferson and the Jackson County Correctional Institute Fire Departments responded to the fire. The single family residence was found fully involved with fire. Braselton court clerk arrested for stealing $15,000

Braselton’s municipal court clerk has been arrested for allegedly stealing $15,000 in cash bond funds over a 10-month period, according to town officials. Becky L.
